We are seeking an enthusiastic Clinical Psychologist to join us in the North Recovery service, a community mental health team which works with adults who have a range of complex mental health needs.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain post-qualification experience in a generic mental health setting in which the expectations of the work will be broad and varied. You will be joining a large and friendly MDT in which there are great prospects for developing a good range of skills in a supportive and dynamic environment. The job will involve working alongside colleagues to offer a service to clients and their families; joint & indirect work with colleagues (team formulation, staff training, support and consultation around psychological issues); and appropriate audit, evaluation & research activities as required. There will also be involvement in development of Structured Clinical Management and trauma-informed ways of working within the recovery team, plus involvement in the transformation within community mental health services.
The post would suit a candidate with experience of adults with mental health problems, including psychosis and personality difficulties. Enthusiasm and willingness to work proactively in multi-disciplinary teams and a multi-agency context will be required. The current talking therapies team includes CBT therapists and clinical psychologists, plus peer recovery workers and there are good opportunities for supervision, development and support.
The role will involve assessment and therapeutic interventions with adults who have complex mental health difficulties. You will be working alongside the multidisciplinary team in order to develop formulations of complex cases and support colleagues in understanding and working with clients in a trauma informed way. You will also have opportunities to work alongside colleagues on service development projects, deliver relevant training and input into the current transformation plan in line with national plans for integrated Mental Health community services.

Job Purpose
To provide a qualified specialist clinical psychology/psychological therapy service to service users of the North Recovery service.
To take sole professional responsibility and exercise autonomous professional and clinical judgement within the overall framework of Trust, HCPC, & BPS policies/guidelines/standards.
To utilise research skills for audit, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.
Clinical
To provide specialist psychological assessments of service users, and their families, based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources.
To formulate and implement plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a service user’s problems
To work on a daily basis in individual, family and/or in group therapy settings
To be responsible for implementing a range of specialist psychological interventions
To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals
To contribute directly and indirectly to a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all users
To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual service users and to provide advice to other professions
To coordinate, where appropriate, the intervention plans, taking responsibility for initiating planning and reviews of plans
To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans of service users
Teaching, Training and Supervision
To receive regular clinical professional supervision in accordance with professional practice (HCPC/BPS) and Trust guidelines
To gain wider post-qualification knowledge, skills and experience
To provide supervision to other MDT staff’s psychological work, as appropriate.
To provide professional and clinical supervision of assistant psychologists where appropriate.
To offer training placements to trainee clinical psychologists as appropriate.
To contribute to the pre- and post-qualification teaching of clinical psychology as appropriate.
To provide advice, consultation and training to staff where appropriate.
To attend supervisor training in preparation for becoming a supervisor for the DClinPsy Training Courses.
Management, Recruitment, Policy, Organisational andService Development
To contribute to the development, evaluation and monitoring of aspects of the team’s clinical practice through research, service evaluation and audit.
To advise both service and professional management on those aspects of the service where psychological and/or organisational matters need addressing.
To manage the workloads and contribute to recruitment of assistant psychologists, where appropriate
To implement the policies and propose changes to working practices/procedures concerning professional good practice
Research and Service Evaluation
To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence-based practice in individual work and work with other team members.
To undertake, where appropriate, research and provide research advice to other staff undertaking research.
To undertake project management, including complex audit and service evaluation, with colleagues within the service to help develop service provision.
To disseminate research findings through publications and conference presentations.
Working Environment
To provide psychological care to Recovery service users and their families in the least restrictive and least stigmatising environment in community settings, including home visits, community bases, and primary care bases.
The job role will involve working alone in situations where there may be some risk of verbal or physical aggression from service users, carers, and the general public.
General Requirements
To contribute to the development and maintenance of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal and external CPD training
To contribute to the development and articulation of best practice in psychology/ psychological therapy across the service
To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping including electronic data entry and recording, report writing and the responsible exercise of professional self-governance
To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues.
