Job description
We are looking to recruit individuals who share our passion for hospital pharmacy. This rotational post will include both the diploma and independent prescribing qualification, under guidance from the education and training team.
The pharmacy team is managed as a single department, with a head count of around 200 members of staff.
The successful applicants will work on the Wexham Park Hospital site, but will be required to travel to other sites as required, including Heatherwood Hospital. The post will also involve emergency duty commitment and extended hours working.
The post holder will be required to work as part of the pharmacy team to provide a clinical pharmacy service through dispensary and to various clinical speciality wards at the Weham Park Hospital site, and to various affiliated organisations.
The post holder will be required to partake in bank holiday, late night and weekend working hours; and also provide a non residential on-call pharmacy service to Wexham Park Hospital.

- To actively participate in ward and clinical pharmacy services within the Trust.
- To actively promote the safe, prompt and efficient discharge of patients from all wards and departments throughout the Trust.
- To assist in safe and efficient prescribing by advising upon the selection and use of medication to medical and other professional staff.
- To ensure that drugs utilised within area of rotation reflect the recommendations, the policies and formulary of Frimley Health Foundation Trust.
- To attend ward rounds as per departmental requirements e.g. EST (emergency surgical team), POST take ward rounds which may involve flexibility of start/finish time.
- To accept delegated responsibility for supervision of pharmacy technicians, assistants and pharmacy foundation trainees.
- To assist the Specialist and Lead Pharmacists, Lead Technician and Medicines Management Technicians in the provision of patient services.
- To assist in answering medicine information enquiries, ensuring advice given is accurate, prompt and relevant.
- To promote pharmacy practice research and clinical audit across the Trust and to participate in Trust and departmental audits.
- To provide support in the provision of the chemotherapy and aseptic services after suitable training.
- To ensure that safe systems of work are followed in accordance with the Health and Safety Policies in operation
- To provide dispensary and ward cover as appropriate to facilitate the smooth running of the department.
- To fulfil the role and duties of the “Responsible Pharmacist” when required, and complete appropriate records as required by the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
- To participate in late duties, bank holiday and weekend dispensary rotas as appropriate for the staff group.
- To contribute to the departmental Continual Professional Development (CPD) programme and to undertake CPD as required by the GPhC
- To participate in the clinical training of newly qualified pharmacists, pharmacy foundation trainees, technicians, pre-registration trainee pharmacy technicians, apprentices and other pharmacy staff.
- To deliver training to other staff as necessary. This may include doctors, nurses, medical students and other health professionals. This training may be ward based, tutorials or through presentations.
- To participate in training and development activities as are considered appropriate by the Chief Pharmacist to keep up to date with advances in the service.
- To provide an out of hours emergency pharmacy service
- Responsibilities include:
Provision of pharmaceutical advice to medical and nursing staff
Supply of urgently needed medication
Participation in the Trust’s major incident scheme
- Any other duties as required by the Chief Pharmacist or his/her deputy.
