Same Day Emergency Care Unit
Advanced Clinical Practitioner Band 7
Exciting opportunities are being developed to work within the developing Same Day Emergency Care Unit (SDEC) at Dorset County Hospital. We would like to invite Advanced Clinical Practitioners who are keen to support emergency work to avoid admission to hospital for patients.
In addition, we are looking for enthusiastic Advanced Clinical Practitioners who are organised and can use their own initiative whilst being flexible to frequently changing situations, to work with and support the Registered Nurses/Paramedics and Healthcare Assistants in SDEC where you will be supporting the Acute Physicians and Surgeons in admission avoidance of emergency attendances.
This is a permanent position and would require communication with a range of health professionals in relation to patient admission and discharge.
There will be an expectation of the applicants to possess excellent communication skills to support the working of the team with internal and external agencies and, fellow professionals to support safe, effective patient discharges from hospital and assistance with patient flow by avoiding hospital admission.
The service is currently seven days 08.00 – 21.00hrs Monday to Friday and 08.00-20.00 at weekends.
- Manage the Same Day Emergency Care Unit on a day to day purpose
- The post holder will hold a recognised qualification as an Advanced Care Practitioner to include a qualification as a prescriber
- Whilst functioning as an autonomous practitioner independently assess, diagnose, plan, implement and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for patients presenting with an undifferentiated diagnosis independently
- Accept GP referrals and other specialities and those returning for review
- Clinically examine and assess patient needs from a physiological and psychological perspective, and plan clinical care accordingly
- Autonomously assess, diagnosis, plan, implement quality care and evaluate interventions/treatments for patients with complex needs
- Diagnose and manage both acute and chronic conditions, integrating both drug- and nondrug-based treatment methods into a management plan
- Review and prescribe medication for therapeutic effectiveness, appropriate to patient needs and in accordance with evidence-based practice and national and practice protocols, and within scope of practice
- Prioritise health problems and intervene appropriately to assist the patient in complex, urgent
- Support the development of the Nurse Practitioner Service in Same Day Emergency Care
- Work as an autonomous practitioner as part of a multi professional team in the delivery of emergency care in the setting of the SDEC
We are currently developing an expansion of our Emergency Department as part of the Government’s New Hospital Programme and in 2025/26. We are also planning to introduce a digital technology service.
