Are you an exceptional Pharmacist looking for a rewarding new challenge? Would you like the opportunity to use your skills in an environment like no other to make a real difference every day? Interested, then working in, HMP Bedford and Yarl’s Wood is just the place for you.
In our quest to deliver patient-focused quality care we are developing our pharmacy services and are looking for highly motivated, innovative and enthusiastic Advanced Specialist Pharmacist to join our forward thinking, friendly and expanding team of pharmacy assistants, technicians and pharmacists. All sites operate an electronic prescribing system within the healthcare department.
- Maintain and improve standards of clinical pharmacy practice, quality assurance, risk management and other issues of clinical governance related to medicines optimisation within HMP Bedford and IRC Yarl’s Wood.
- To lead, develop, deliver and evaluate pharmacy and medicine optimisation services on behalf of CNWL to HMP Bedford and IRC Yarl’s Wood.
- Lead, develop and manage the pharmacy team at HMP Bedford and IRC Yarl’s Wood, as directed by Lead Pharmacist East of England.
- To lead and deliver as appropriate a comprehensive medicines optimisation service to patients and to the multidisciplinary treatment teams responsible for their care.
- To manage the cost effective ordering of medicines and medical consumables as well as pharmacy staff resources.
- To ensure service compliance with medicines legislation in particular controlled drugs legislation.
- To provide input into policy, procedures, audit and research affecting the use of pharmaceuticals at HMP Bedford, IRC Yarl’s Wood and other CNWL Foundation Trust sites where appropriate.
Yarl’s Wood IRC is an Immigration Removal Centre housing mainly men and a small number of women awaiting their immigration clearance, approximate around 400 detainees. CNWL provides Pharmacy services, and works in partnership with the main healthcare provider Northamptonshire Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust (NHFT).
Work within the Pharmacy is varied and includes dispensing medicines and budget management, medicine governance, health promotion, medicine review clinics, effective care planning and liaising with the multidisciplinary team. It’s this variety that keeps things interesting and stimulating. Every day will bring new challenges and new experiences but you’ll have all the support you need to deliver the best care possible from both the healthcare team and the prison team.
You will be a Registered Pharmacist with a real passion for delivering high quality medicine management service. You will be self-motivated, flexible and work well within a team but be able to work autonomously. You will need to have previous experience in management and leadership.
You do not need to have prison experience as we will provide you with a full induction and training, but you will need to have pharmacy management experience.
