An exciting, fixed term opportunity of four days per week has arisen for a highly motivated, passionate, and adaptable Band 7 Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team based at Watford General Hospital.
You will work as part of a team of Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialists and will also work effectively as an autonomous practitioner. You will be a vital core member of the lung multi-disciplinary team providing specialist advice and support to patients and their families and acting as a key worker at all stages of the cancer pathway.
You will need to be able to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have confidence in communicating with staff at all levels within the organisation as well as patients and families. Sound clinical reasoning skills are essential, and you will also be able to prioritise your workload in order to meet competing demands.
The post holder will be a highly valued member of the team and the wider team, and you will receive monthly clinical supervision from the Principle Clinical Psychologist.
The CNS will work effectively as an autonomous practitioner and will be a core member of the lung multi-disciplinary team (MDT) providing specialist advice and support to patients and their families and acting as a key worker at all stages of the cancer pathway.
The post holder will be responsible for delivering the Supportive Care requirements for patients with lung cancer.
You will influence patient care through clinical practice, clinical management, leadership, education, research, audit and professional activities for all disciplines relating to lung cancers working with the Cancer Management Team and across all Divisions.

The post holder will assist with the management and smooth running of the service. Provide essential cross departmental liaison and communication to improve the patient journey and experience, reducing length of stay in hospital and in some cases averting hospital admissions.
Communication with GP’s will also form an essential part of the post. The post holder will undertake assessments including the initial 2ww assessments of highly likely lung cancer patients, implement patients care and give advice in Lung Cancer utilising specific clinical knowledge, skills, and experience.
The post holder will work alongside other clinical colleagues in cancer care, MDT members, palliative care, emergency care, acute medicine, radiology, pathology and other Oncology services locally, primary care and voluntary sector services across the Cancer Alliance to ensure quality of care to the patients is maximised.
This will include the development of clinical guidelines, monitoring the impact of the service using agreed pathways and monitoring several key metrics.
The post holder will ensure that the users of the service are actively involved in the development of the service and that their recommendations are disseminated to the Cancer Management Team ensuring appropriate actions are devised.
