Adult Critical Care are looking to employ a motivated and conscientious senior nurse to join our friendly and dynamic multi professional team caring for critically ill patients and their families. You will have a broad experience and insight into caring for acutely unwell patients and their families. You will have the ability to support and effectively communicate with the patients and relatives.

The Family Liaison Lead will be required to have a lead nursing responsibility to assess and address the psychological needs of families from admission, during their stay and through to discharge from critical care. Main duties of the job

To provide effective nursing leadership, expertise, advice and psychological support to families on critical care to ensure the provision of high quality care to children and families, addressing sensitive and address complex issues.


To facilitate referral to appropriate support services and work closely with End of Life Champions and Schwartz Leads in Critical care


To act as a designated support resource to children and families and other professionals caring for them.


To provide family bereavement support and follow up care.


To facilitate the development of all staff within the critical care team in the support of families in critical care.


To promote an innovative and progressive attitude to the continual improvement of patient and family centred care through research and evidence based practice.


To work in close co-operation with and communicate effectively at all levels within the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and outside agencies.


To contribute to long term patient management and discharge planning.


Ensure the Patient and Public Involvement feedback is integrated into service design and developments.


Ensure a comprehensive assurance report is provided every quarter to the Acute Pathway Management Team and information and learning disseminated to the staff.


To line manage and support the Professional Nurse Advocates as they work to support staff wellbeing in Critical Care

The Critical Care service at the Queens Medical Centre Campus encompasses 29 Level 3 beds on Adult Intensive Care and 20 Level 2 beds on High Dependency. Critical Care at the City Campus consists of a combined unit with 17 beds.

Training and Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Current level one NMC registration
  • Evidence of academic learning at Level 3 or equivalent
  • Leadership course

Desirable criteria

  • Masters in health/ nursing related degree

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of Critical Care knowledge and clinical practice
  • Possesses the specialised knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide care for people with physical disability and chronic illness

Desirable criteria

  • Evidence of involvement in project work

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.
