    License and Certification Qualifications: Valid Georgia driver's license required.

    Education Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent required.

    Experience Qualifications: Experience providing outreach services to families and children required. Experience in a school setting preferred.

    Skills Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively and courteously with the public, families, students, and staff; demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and oral and written communication skills; ability to follow oral and written instructions quickly and accurately; strong clerical skills including typing, word processing skills, and filing; knowledge of basic bookkeeping skills; and ability to represent Gwinnett County Public Schools in a positive and professional manner. High level of bilingual ability in English and predominant minority language preferred.

    Primary Responsibilities: Provide support to staff, students, and families, which will increase student achievement by using family engagement strategies that support local school LSPI and Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) mission, vision, and goals.

    1. Assist with Building Parent Capacity.
    a. Greet, welcome, and assist families.
    b. Maintain frequent, ongoing communication with families.
    c. Provide orientation for all families new to the school.
    d. Assist school leaders in creating opportunities to involve all families in the education of their children.
    e. Provide assistance during learning opportunities/workshops for parents at flexible times.
    f. Communicate with families in multiple formats that reflect the needs of the community.
    g. Assist school leaders in identifying top languages for the translation of school documents specifically for families.

    2. Assist in keeping parents informed concerning academic expectations, student learning opportunities, and training.
    a. Advertise family engagement activities through a variety of media.
    b. Communicate with families via the school newsletter and website.
    c. Serve as the liaison between the local school and district family engagement support personnel.
    d. Initiate and respond to parent telephone calls, e-mails, and written correspondence related to Family Engagement.

    3. Assist in workshops, activities, and professional learning related to family engagement and building parent capacity.
    a. Attend regularly scheduled family engagement meetings/professional learning.
    b. Collaborate with school leaders to ensure families who need assistance with understanding progress monitoring, curriculum, assessments, and/or how to support their children’s academic and non-academic needs are connected to available resources in a timely and efficient manner.
    c. Collaborate with school staff to identify meetings and workshops for families to build the capacity of families that align with the school’s Local School Plan for Improvement (LSPI) based on community needs.

    4. Outreach to the community.
    a. Implement Family Engagement Programs/Activities in alignment with the training provided by the district’s family engagement personnel.
    b. Serve as the liaison for the Office of Family Engagement in supporting the four pillars of community schools.
    c. Assist in the coordination of local staff, district staff, and community partners to integrate activities designed to involve all families in the education of their children.
    d. Collaborate with community stakeholders to create partnerships with local businesses.

    5. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Physical Demands:
    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance; stoop, kneel, and crouch. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
