Job Title: Staff Nurse RGN/RMN

Reports to: Home Manager /Deputy Manager

Purpose: To maintain the care of residents within the home and achieve the highest possible standards of care in a professional manner through direct nursing care and effective supervision of staff members and to take management responsibility for a shift as directed.

To ensure that all Company policies and procedures and all legal requirements are adhered

Key Responsibilities :

  • In conjunction with the Deputy Manager ensure that all staff within your unit contributes to the best of their ability to the efficient running of the unit and the creation of an atmosphere conducive to the best interests of the residents. Duties may also include acting up in the absence of the Deputy Manager or Home Manager.
  • To co-ordinate, implement and maintain Person Centred Care Plans for residents ensuring that residents have goals as part of their plans to enable the promotion of independence, and where appropriate to develop this in conjunction with relatives and other health and social care professionals in accordance with NMC Guidelines and Company policy.
  • To ensure that all documentation and care and support delivered is compliant with relevant legislation and inspection bodies.
  • To ensure that residents have a choice over their meals and that their dietary requirements are met.
  • Ensure that the keyworker system in your unit operates efficiently and that all staff understand their responsibilities in this role

To maintain effective communication with Home Manager, Deputy, staff, residents, relatives and other stakeholders

Residents wellbeing

  • Facilitate a structured, safe, harmonious and caring environment in your unit that fosters the physical and emotional well-being of the residents and staff; emphasis should be placed on teambuilding and individual growth and respect for all.
  • Provide support, guidance and nursing care for residents in your unit in accordance with their personal needs as set out in their Care plan, risk assessments and medication documentation
  • Support residents towards maximum independence.
  • Provide emotional support and appropriate intervention for distressed or challenging residents.
  • Ensure all documenting is completed in a timely way to required standards.
  • Assess & agree resident’s support and care requirements with the resident and other stakeholders
  • Ensure risk assessments are completed with residents where required.
  • Administer and Monitor the safe handling of medicines
  • Ensure health issues or health concerns are addressed promptly.
  • Maintain regular contact and foster good relationships with relatives or other significant individuals who have a relationship with residents.
  • Facilitate the provision of emergency medical, dental or other care when needed
  • In conjunction with the Activity Co-ordinator and Care staff support each resident in structuring a meaningful programme of day activities for residents in your unit.
  • Support leisure activities for residents where applicable.
  • Oversee, monitor and actively observethe carers support of residents
  • Support residents to make informed choices about their lives.

Needs Assessment and Support Planning

  • In conjunction with the Deputy Manager facilitate regular residents’ Reviews in accordance with Hudson Healthcare and Local Authority policies.
  • Ensure sharing of support/PCP plan information amongst relevant staff.

Human Resources

  • To adhere to and implement all HR policies and procedures
  • In the absence of the Home Manager/Deputy manager organise workloads by forward planning off duty to ensure that there is sufficient staff cover and dealing with problems as they arrive

Training, management and welfare of all staff

  • Ensure staff you are responsible for participate in induction training
  • Provide on-the-job training, mentoring and support to staff
  • Provide supervision for staff in the home
  • Participate in staff appraisals
  • Ensure monthly floor meetings take place and are documented
  • Attend mandatory training as required
  • To maintain and improve professional knowledge and competence

Marketing

  • Promote a positive personal/professional profile within the local community.
  • Ensure the home is attractively presented and odour free, at all times
  • In conjunction with the Deputy Manager ensure a viewing room is suitably presented and available at all times

Management of Health & Safety Systems

  • Report daily any health and safety issues that come to light, to the home manager. Inform maintenance of any repairs required.
  • Report immediately to the Deputy Manger any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a resident, colleague, self or another.
  • Promote safe working practices within the home
  • Ensure medicine receipt, disposal and administration is handled and documented in line with policy
  • Know your responsibilities in case of a fire emergency
  • Participate in Home meetings as requested/required.
  • You must make yourself aware of the Homes’ policies and procedures, e.g. Safeguarding, complaints, missing person, etc.
  • You will be expected to take part in regular staff appraisals

GENERAL

  • Maintain own personal development in relation to training and social care by reading relevant journals, attending meetings and relevant courses
  • Build a professional working relationship with residents, colleagues and relevant professionals.
  • Represent Hudson Healthcare in a positive and professional manner.
  • Adhere to confidentiality procedure.
  • To work in accordance with and uphold Hudson Healthcare’s mission and vision statement and statement of values
  • Ensure that the promotion of equality of opportunity and challenging discrimination are central to strategic development, management and its services to residents
  • Contributing to the safeguarding Adults Policy taking steps to prevent residents from abuse
  • Being on call in emergencies and to cover shifts if all other avenues have been exhausted
  • Carry out any other tasks that may be reasonably assigned to you.
