The Role
Here at Sundean Veterinary Group, we are looking for a Lead Veterinary Surgeon to join our team on a fixed term, 6 month basis. The role will involve carrying out consultations, operations and leadership of the team. We are looking for an individual with strong leadership values and experience to drive the group forward and this is a great opportunity for an experienced clinician with a commercial and entrepreneurial mindset to really make their mark on the group.
Work life balance that works for you
Our flexible approach to rota patterns and working hours truly tips the scale on your work life balance. We know that everyone has demands and priorities outside of their career and we want to make it brilliantly easy for you to strike the right balance. Whether you are looking to fix or flex your work patterns, we can find the right solution for you.
Ideally the rota will include working 30-40 hours per week; however, we are flexible on hours and days to suit the candidate. There will be 1 in 4 weekends and no out of hours.
The salary for this role will be up to £72,000 depending on experience + up to £5,000 relocation package + additional benefits including Private Medical Insurance and 7.6 weeks annual leave.
About Us
We are a small animal practice equipped with digital x-ray, dental x-ray, ultrasound, separate cat and dog ward plus isolation. We are in a beautiful part of the countryside, within easy reach of the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley, but with easy access to Bristol, Cardiff and Gloucester. We care about our staff wellbeing and have a dedicated mental health first aider on-site to check in with staff.
Currently our group consists of 6 Veterinary Surgeons, 8 Registered Veterinary Nurses and 10 Receptionists over 3 sites. We have Vets holding surgery and exotics certificates. Two of our Vets are training towards certificates in ophthalmology and feline medicine.
Here’s what the team has to say about working with Sundean:
“Lovely, friendly place to work where colleagues become good friends”
“Proud to be part of such a great team”
“Nice client base where you get to build great relationships”
“Great team who trusts and respect each other”
“All staff ensure the best care is given at all times”
“A lovely place to work where all pets are treated as if they were your own”
Applicant Requirements
Ideally, you would have had some management or Clinical Director experience, but the role may suit an experienced Veterinary Surgeon looking to step up and learn the skills needed for a Clinical Director position. We have available enrolment on the IVC Evidensia Leadership Development Programme if this would be advantageous. We are a busy practice, and some days workflow will be challenging while other days allow more time for managing the practice and private study. We require some resilience, stamina, problem-solving skills, and energy to allow the Practice to progress and move forward.
Our candidate needs to be a good all-rounder who genuinely cares about their clients and patients. The team has a family feel, we regularly meet up outside of work for meals and dog walks.
