Job description
Are you undecided about your career choices? Want to gain more clinical experience or improve your CV? Keen to develop an interest in education, research or management? Then a clinical development post might be for you. An opportunity to grow in confidence as a doctor whilst still gaining supported experience.
Applications are invited for Clinical Development Fellow posts in Acute Medicine which are available from Wednesday 2nd August 2023 for a period of 6 or 12 months. These posts are available at the new Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary and are aimed at those doctors who have recently completed their foundation programme or equivalent or core training.
These posts will afford successful applicants the opportunity to gain wide experience in Acute Medicine and develop procedural skills, while enjoying protected development time. We are a friendly, supportive, and enthusiastic team, and are aiming to recruit like-minded individuals.
Successful candidates will be contracted for 40 hours per week, with an average of 32 hours clinical and 8 hour for mentored development time. Clinical work will be based on our Acute Medical Unit and will include Out of Hours (OOH) work. The post holder will be paid at ST level based on their previous experience. A banding supplement relevant to the OOH component of their rotas will be paid in addition to the basic salary.
We anticipate that many of our CDFs will want to teach and will encourage them to enrol in Edinburgh’s Clinical Educator Programme, successful completion of which will satisfy the GMC’s requirements to be recognised as a trainer. The Dumfries Medical and Emergency Medicine Units teach Glasgow students in their 3rd and 4th year and ScotGEM students in their 2nd and 3rd years (ScotGEM is a 4 year postgraduate degree run by St Andrews and Dundee that is based mainly in primary care with secondary care ‘bursts’). Our Medicine teaching programme is highly rated by our students whose feedback places us right at the top of the West of Scotland teaching league table. CDFs will find there are abundant opportunities to teach and to mentor students. We will in addition set aside up to £1500 per annum per CDF for study leave including courses such as the Clinical Educator Programme.
Appointment will be subject to the Terms and Conditions of Service of Hospital Medical and Dental Staff and Doctors and Dentists in Public Health Medicine and the Community Health Service (Scotland).
