Job overview

An fantastic opportunity has arisen to join and support the Clinical Coding Training team for the Northern Care Alliance.

You should have great communicative skills, be enthusiastic about working in a fast-paced environment, able to manage and prioritise your own workload, and be driven to ensure we have high quality coding within our department. You will be approachable and supportive to the Clinical Coding teams, providing timely guidance, feedback and helping to motivate them to improve the quality of coding in all aspects.

Staff applying for this position will be able to negotiate their base at one of the NCA sites. In addition to this, we offer hybrid working, with the expectation of working part of the time on site, and part remotely. However you will eb required to travel and work across all sites within the NCA.

All applicants must hold Accredited Clinical Coder (ACC) status and have a minimum of 2 years post qualification experience of working in a clinical coding department.

For current NHS Digital approved Clinical Coding Trainers – applicants with this certification will commence as a Band 6.

If you are not NHS Digital qualified, you will be recruited into the post on Band 5 AfC with an upgrade to Band 6 upon successfully obtaining NHS Digital approved Clinical Coding Trainer status.

Main duties of the job

Working closely with our other clinical coding trainer you will have responsibility for the delivery of a comprehensive training programme to the Trusts clinical coding department as well as implement and deliver regular approved training sessions for clinical coders, clinicians, and managers to improve knowledge of clinical coding and related topics.

The post holder will advise and assist in the implementation of new guidance and standards, ensuring that local policies and guidance are updated to best serve the needs of the Organisation, and which conform to national coding standards.

The NCA Clinical Coding teams cover across the Bury, Rochdale, Oldham and Salford Care Organisation's. For the BRO sites there are a mixture of electronic and case notes, and at Salford there is an fully electronic patient record (EPR).
