Climate Strategist–Net Zero Unit – London
We have an exciting opportunity for a Climate Strategist to join our team in our London office to help us deliver Aviva’s commitment to net zero. The role would suit someone with very good understanding of climate science, decarbonisation pathways, carbon reporting methodology, and experience in working with complex technical concepts and data relating to the transition to net zero. A large part of the role is focusing on advancing our decarbonisation efforts through developing and implementing robust carbon performance frameworks for our investment portfolios. In this role, you will have a direct impact on Aviva’s net zero transition and our clients’ investment strategies.
Responsibilities
Providing expertise in climate science and advancing the development of methodologies to assess the carbon performance of investments and support sector and asset class decarbonisation
Undertake bespoke analysis of Net Zero transition for investments, contribute to reports and work with the team and others to increase dissemination and uptake of outputs.
Support the implementation of the Net Zero roadmap and provide input to help commercialise our Net Zero proposition
Keep up to date with external developments, new knowledge, and initiatives on climate change, prepare briefings and undertake reviews to inform our discussions and planning
Work in partnership with other internal teams undertaking work relevant to our net zero strategy and with external consultants
Scope, project-manage, and drive relevant work and engage effectively with stakeholders and contributors
Ensure all output (internal or external) is of high quality and produced in a timely manner. Engage with the relevant teams and individuals to ensure timely delivery.
Skills and experience we’re looking for:
Experience built in similar roles delivering climate-focused technical leadership in the financial, academia, or other sector.
Expertise in climate science, including hands-on experience in developing and / or applying sector and regional carbon pathways and carbon reporting methodologies, and capturing transition and physical risks.
Strong experience using climate data and very good knowledge of ESG / climate datasets and providers
Finance, sustainability, or other science degree (or relevant work experience)
Knowledge of key external initiatives and players in the climate finance and sector decarbonisation space
