Job description
The Climate, Energy and Environment Team in GO-Science is an exciting and dynamic team, working on the Government Chief Scientific Advisor’s key priorities ensuring science and innovation is at the heart of cross government policies on Net Zero, climate and the environment.
We are looking for someone who can work in our team to lead on environment and biodiversity but who can also contribute to wider climate work. This is a great opportunity to see the breadth of work happening across government on climate, net zero and environment policies and science.
You will get the chance to lead engagement with multiple departments, National Academies, UKRI, industry and academia to bring together the crosscutting science and development. The role bridges between science and policy, ensuring a joined up approach is being taken across government and shaping how GO-Science influence this work. The role also includes responding to fast paced commissions from the GCSA and support him in his national and international relations.
Person specification
You will:
Work on GO-Science priorities on net zero and climate
Work with the wider team to understand new GCSA priorities on climate and implement them.
Work closely with cross government colleagues, particularly from BEIS, DfT, Defra and Cabinet Office to adopt a whole systems approach to climate
Work on GO-S climate adaptation research board, supporting the G7 to deliver the secretariat work
Also work with the wider team to respond to requests for briefings to support GCSA’s work, engagement and communications
Skills and Experience
We are looking for someone with a Degree (or equivalent) in climate or environment related subject or Degree in a Science subject (including social science) with experience of climate/environment
The postholder will need to form and maintain relationships across Whitehall to facilitate delivery of our Climate and environment priorities.
You will need to manage priorities and ensure that multiple workstreams have the support they require.
You should understand the importance of evidence based decisions and/or systems approach.
We are looking for someone who can adapt to new challenges and can work with a team
