GROWTH & REGENERATION

Climate Change Officer

£35,411 - £38,296 per annum

plus essential car user allowance

Home working contract

37 hours per week

Temporary contract

3 year duration

Tamworth Borough Council has embarked on a journey to make its Council operations Net Zero Carbon by 2050 with an aspiration to achieve this target by 2030 if financially able to do so.

We are committed to embedding climate change considerations into everything we do as an organisation, such as including climate change as part of all council decision making and looking at best practice and working collaboratively with partners, particularly Staffordshire County Council.

We are seeking to build capacity in the organisation to start the preparation and subsequent delivery of an action plan which will seek to find solutions and structure financial investment by the Council into reducing greenhouse gases.

You will have responsibility for helping to shape the action plan, using your skills and expertise, working with a wide range of internal and external partners. The post will also be responsible for monitoring the benefits achieved by the actions implemented and charting our progress towards net zero. A key workstream will be the identification and pursuit of funding opportunities with service leads to support ongoing decarbonisation projects.

The net zero workstream is an important transformative corporate priority for the Borough Council and an opportunity for the right individual to be integral to its delivery.

We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and highly organised individual, with excellent written and numeracy skills. You will be educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant subject and be able to analyse and interpret data, prepare reports and briefings, take part and lead on topic groups and manage projects.

A natural communicator, you’ll be experienced in delivering and project managing environmental and climate change projects, and in establishing working relationships with colleagues and stakeholders across all levels of an organisation. On a personal level, you’ll be an adept problem solver capable of working under pressure and prioritising your own workload.

Most importantly, you will be a person passionate about the environment, and about reducing the impacts of climate change on people and natural places. This is an exciting opportunity to do your bit for the planet and progress your career.

This is a home working contract and the majority of duties will be carried out at home, however, employees will be contractually required to attend site on two days per month for team meetings, 121 meetings, etc. Employees may also be required to attend a site for meetings, collaborative work or to undertake work related activities. Site attendance will constitute no more than 40% of working time and includes the contractual 2 days per month.

The authority offers an excellent employment package with flexible working, a non-contributory health scheme, Local Government pension scheme and generous holiday entitlement.

Appointment will be subject to satisfactory references, right to work in the UK check, and medical clearance.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Anna Miller, Assistant Director of Growth and Regeneration 07891 285617 or email [email protected].

Closing date: 12th June 2023

Late applications and/or CVs will not be accepted. Agencies need not apply. We welcome applications from all sectors of the community. This authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. DBS checks required for relevant posts.
