Practice Profile:
Village Vet is a well-established primary care practice group providing excellent levels of veterinary professional care across 30 practices covering London, Hertfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
Village Vet Palmers Greens sits opposite the beautiful Broomfield Park and has been a pet shop for nearly 20 years. We stock a large range of pet foods and pet accessories and pride ourselves on the service provided to our loyal clients.
We work closely with other local Village Vet practices and have our own vet based at the practice 3 days per week.
We are currently seeking a new Client Care Assistant / Shop Assistant to join our team. You will be front of house, welcoming clients and their pets into the branch. Being efficient, pleasant and courteous to clients and their animals at all times. Ensuring a smooth client and pet flow from the waiting/shop area to the consult room to payment processing. Cleaning the consultation and waiting areas throughout the day.
We would like to hear from candidates who are customer focused and confident working with animals. The position will best suit a proactive and enthusiastic individual with a passion for providing excellent customer service.
The successful applicant will be working front of house in our reception/shop areas. Booking in appointments, taking payments, speaking with clients and undertaking general administrative tasks whilst replenishing stock and consumables.
The successful applicant will also be given the opportunity to work in a more clinical setting supporting our vet in consultations, handling animals and supporting with patient care.
Hours: 42 Hours per week, shifts will be 9am-5pm Mon-Fri
The successful applicant will also be on the weekend rota at Winchmore Hill 8.30am-4pm on Saturday (1 in 4) and Sunday 9am-2pm (1 in 4)

Key responsibilities
- Manage and deal with appointment bookings in a professional and efficient manner
- Answer and make calls to veterinary practices, insurance companies and clients with a high level of customer service
- Support the business with a range of administrative duties
- Have a high level of attention to detail
- Able to work well in a fast-paced environment and still maintain a high level of customer service and completing all tasks to a high standard
- Show awareness of financial control within the practice and follow up with clients for outstanding payments
- Be happy to discuss financial issues with clients if needs be
- Daily management of the practice diary to ensure all patients are booked in efficiently and any gaps can be proactively filled
- Maintain the highest professional and ethical standards
- Make sure communication is to a high standard with referring vets and colleagues
- Ensure that a high standard of client care is maintained at all times within the team
- Work closely with your vet and neighbouring branches
- Ensuring the store front is stocked with items and pet food, regular stock takes of medication and consumables.
- Maintain accurate stock rotation/replenishment, thereby avoiding products going out of date.
- Assist with the management of the pharmacy, including unpacking orders, stock rotation and environmental temperatures
- Serving customers and taking payments, advising customers on products and services
- Banking duties
- Handling and feeding exotic animals
- Assisting with patient handling and restraint
- Assisting with diagnostic techniques to include preparation of equipment, processing and/or packaging for external laboratories
- Skills. Knowledge and Experience
Essential:
- A proactive attitude that doesn’t need to be constantly supervised
- Adapt well to learning a new system if no previous experience
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Highly motivated to provide excellent service to clients and the practice
- Works well within a team and be a positive member of the team
- Ability to work at a fast working pace under pressure along with lone working and managing own workload when the branch runs at a slower pace
- Professional approach to work
- Excellent administration, organisational and time management skills with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent IT skills – Microsoft (Outlook, Word and Excel).
