Location: Cheltenham, GL51 0EX

Salary: £35,000 per annum

Working Hours: Permanent, Full Time, 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday.


Excellent Company benefits including Contributory Pension, plus a retention bonus of up to £2,000 pa (pro rata) subject to meeting the eligibility criteria. As Cleaning Manager you will support the Head of Soft Services by overseeing the cleaning and housekeeping services on the site, to provide a cost effective and efficient service in line with contract requirements.

Primarily a junior management/organisational role ensuring that others have the necessary competence, training, back-up and support to deliver required outputs. Needs to be able to anticipate and deal with issues and be the communication link between senior management and the workforce.

To lead and develop the cleaning team to provide a clean and safe environment for the Client.

To develop, manage and development of service solutions to meet customer and business specifications and requirements

A flexible approach to service provision is essential to ensure that all tasks are delivered within Company/Client standards and procedures. The contents of this job outline may therefore require amendment from time to time.


Key Responsibilities will include:

Focusing on the Team

  • To recruit, train, control, monitor and co-ordinate supervisory staff across operational activities to include cleaning and housekeeping to maximise efficiency and performance in these areas.

  • In conjunction with Supervisors, ensure plans and schedules operate to resource the service delivery requirements, including contingencies, so that contract conditions are always met.

  • To ensure proper processes are in place and operating for the recruitment, training and motivation of staff to maintain efficiency and reduce wastage.

  • To work with the Head of Soft Services/Contract Manager in monitoring and recording of service activities and levels of performance to demonstrate contract compliance and improve efficiencies.

  • To develop and maintain effective working relationships with the Supervisors, Workforce and other Managers to ensure customer needs are properly understood and met.

  • Develop relationship with all shifts/teams to continuously improve knowledge and understanding of the operational needs of the business, best practice and techniques so that all solutions are operationally viable and accepted by the operational teams.

  • Operate and contribute as a member of the Management team and undertake any other duties reasonably required by the Contract Manager.

  • To lead and develop a skilled cleaning team to meet operational and business needs.

  • To ensure that plans are in place to provide appropriate resources to meet contractual requirements.

  • To re-schedule work to meet fluctuations in staffing levels/customer requests.

  • To collate, analyse and review information e.g. budgets, hours, forecasts in order to monitor and report on performance.

  • To provide cover for other Managers/Team Leaders where appropriate


Focusing on the Client

  • Adhere to an audit and compliance schedule for cleaning services ensuring that the company complies with internal and external standards.

  • Monitor and report on service performance and overall trends in service delivery identifying areas of improvement and liaising with relevant stakeholders, including internal forums, to optimise delivery.

  • To act as a point of escalation for all stakeholders for associated issues.

  • Develop an understanding of any changes and developments in legislation and working practices that may affect compliance with cleaning practices and which may present new opportunities.

  • To ensure proper processes are operated within area the of responsibility to ensure all legislative and G4S procedures are followed in order to maintain a safe and secure environment for staff and customers

  • To develop and maintain an effective working relationship so that the client needs are understood and the Company reputation enhanced.

  • To foster an environment of continuous improvement to maximise customer satisfaction.

  • Develop the cleaning service for the contract that meets SLA, G4S and Client requirements.

  • To comply with the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act and emergency procedures as required.


Focusing on G4S

  • Manage the development and implementation of local and corporate policies and procedures within the cleaning services, to ensure a compliant service is delivered in line with strategy, legislation and corporate policy.

  • Ensure all G4S cleaning assets are maintained correctly and escalate where required.

  • Ensure strict confidentiality.

  • Report any maintenance required via the appropriate route and/or advise a member of the Supervisory or Management team and regular liaison with the helpdesk team.

  • Attend both internal and external training courses as required.

  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as requested by Management



The Ideal Candidate:


Essential Criteria:

  • Previous People Management Experience.

  • Must be reliable, conscientious with a keen eye for detail.

  • Good customer care skills

  • Enthusiastic and flexible approach

  • Great communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Flexibility and adaptability

  • Excellent customer relations skills, a sense of humour and plenty of energy and enthusiasm.

  • Good level of computer literacy

Desirable Criteria:

  • Previous cleaning experience would be an advantage but no experience necessary as training will be provided
