General farm worker/ assistant herdsperson required for small dairy farm between Shepton Mallet and Radstock, Somerset.
We have a herd of around 120 British Friesian and Ayrshire cows plus followers. We are looking for somebody to assist our herd manager with the daily running of the farm, including, but not limited to;
- Milking in a 16:16 herringbone parlour, with milk meters and ACR’s (4 milking’s in a full week).
- Yard work such as feeding, scraping and bedding (mostly mechanised).
- Record keeping using computer management programmes.
- Assisting the herd manger with general animal husbandry
- Ensuring machinery is kept in a clean and serviceable condition.
This position is a 5 day working week, Sunday – Thursday, with a basic salary of £28,500 and 20 days holiday + 8 Bank holidays.
Some previous experience with cattle and telehandlers is essential, as we are currently unable to provide full training, however, external training, such as foot trimming and vet run medicine courses can be available to the right candidate.
