What will you be doing?

As a Trainee Civil Engineer, you will become a part of the Cementation Skanska team, where we will make it our ambition to prepare you for a successful and rewarding career as a site based Civil Engineer, with a geotechnical focus.

Alongside our experienced engineers and construction professionals, you will develop the skills to contribute to successful construction projects.

This will include:

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of Geotechnical Design processes
  • Conduct engineering measurements, checks, inspections and tests to ensure quality compliance
  • Contribute to documenting plans, programmes, method statements and risk assessments
  • Use digital solutions to solve technical problems
  • Develop practical understanding of the importance of health and safety and the environmental requirements involved in civil engineering
  • Understand and apply industry specifications, codes, standards and guidance
  • Participate in site inductions, morning briefings & toolbox talks
  • Interpret and analyse of information including analysis of data, producing models, calculations, reports and drawings
  • Identify and manage risk both in a project setting and during the design process
  • Contribute to sustainable engineering solutions

What qualification will you be studying towards?

Level 6 Degree Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering at a nominated University.

You will also work regularly and diligently towards the Incorporated Civil Engineer (IEng MICE) professional qualification, in accordance with your ICE Training Agreement within a suitable time as agreed with your Supervising Civil Engineer (SCE) and Line Manager.

What will we need from you?

  • 3 A-levels at Grade C, including Maths and a Physical Science, BTEC National Diploma or equivalent level 3 qualification.
  • Passion for engineering solutions
  • 5 GCSEs at Grades 5-9 including Maths, English and Science or their equivalent for us to successfully enrol you on the apprenticeship
  • You will enjoy working with other people
  • Enthusiasm for learning and personal development
  • New ideas to help us innovate and work better

What can we offer you?

  • Funding and support to help you achieve a level 6 qualification in Civil Engineering (equivalent to BEng)
  • You will be a part of a community of 100+ apprentices as well as the wider Skanska
  • Starting salary: £18K - £20K per year and annual salary reviews
  • We want you to do well and will support you to have a meaningful career beyond the apprenticeship

Where will you be working?

You will be based in Doncaster for the first year of the apprenticeship, however, you will be encouraged to visit our sites during this time.

From year two, you will start completing rotations in different locations (site and office based across the UK).

Rotations

These will range in duration from 1 month up to 9 months and you will receive additional allowances, on top of your basic salary, to assist with the cost of staying away from home or relocating.

The rotational nature of this programme will give you exposure to an exciting portfolio of piling projects as you experience all stages from tendering to delivery. This will make you a well-rounded engineer and help you in achieving your professional qualification whilst meeting lots of new people, exploring new cities, and seeing the range of challenges presented across the UK.
