Job description
The Orange County Department of Public Works is now accepting applications to fill a provisional Junior Engineer vacancy. Civil Service Examination is a requirement for appointment to become permanent. Competitive Examination to be announced at a later date.
This is the beginning level of technical engineering work involving responsibility for the independent application of engineering principles in the construction and maintenance of highways and bridges. The incumbent works under the general supervision of a higher-level engineer allowing latitude for the exercise of independent judgment on assigned projects. Direct supervision may be exercised over subordinates to whom specific assignments are given and whose work is checked in progress and upon completion. Does related work as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:
(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Geology or related field; OR
(B) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with an Associate's Degree in Engineering Science or related field and two (2) years of experience in a sub-professional capacity in civil engineering; OR
(C) Possession of Certification Level 2, related to civil engineering technology, from the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET); OR
(D) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and four (4) years of experience in a sub-professional capacity in civil engineering.
2022 STARTING SALARY: $31.0635/hour; $56,535.57 annually (35 hours per week)
