You will be working within the Highways and Sustainable Transport service within the Environment and Sustainable Transport directorate where we are committed to making all our streets safer and healthier so that more people choose to walk and cycle, and can enjoy healthy and active local journeys with better air quality and less cars on local streets.
About the job
Reporting to the Principal Officer for Planned Maintenance, we are looking for a Graduate Civil Engineer with flair, initiative and drive to assist in the design and delivery of various maintenance and improvement schemes.
They will need to work closely within the team and the other disciplines, Landscape Architects, Electrical Lighting Engineers, Utilities, Council members, Senior Management as well as Contractors to ensure that schemes are delivered to programme and budget.
About you
Ideally you will have at least one years’ experience as an engineer. Have a basic understanding and some experience of Contract Management, site supervision and working knowledge of the NEC suit of contracts and able to use the latest CAD package to produce working drawings. The successful candidate will need to be aware of their duties as Principal Designer (in some projects) and Designer under the CDM Regulations 2016.
Working within the Highways & Traffic Group, we need a self-motivated and competent person to deliver our aims efficiently and effectively, whilst also meeting the needs of our Members, residents, businesses and visitors.
We are looking for candidates who have basic knowledge and experience of the service area, which have the right technical, financial and management skills to manage simple projects at any given time and also to assist other team members when needed. Also candidates who are able to develop good working relationships within the Group and with our Members, customers, contractors and consultants.
Candidates should be suitably experienced, hold a relevant qualification or have at least 2 years suitable experience in the delivery of Highway and Public realm schemes.
The post-holder will be required to provide a vehicle for use at work and to enable you to travel through the Borough on work purposes
