The Civil Engineer Trainee participates in an on-the-job training program designed to provide a broad understanding of the roles and functions that traditionally require the engineering skills, abilities and knowledge of a PennDOT Civil Engineer.
This employee performs civil engineering assignments to develop engineering skills and to achieve working knowledge of all phases of PennDOT operations. Exposure to engineering areas of Design, Construction, Maintenance, Highway Safety and Traffic through on-the-job learning activities will prepare the incumbent to advance into a permanent career position within the District.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
Full-time employment.- Work hours are 7:00 am to 3:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
- Telework: With supervisory approval, you may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. Telework eligibility will be limited during the probationary period.
- Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

QUALIFICATIONS
You must have successfully examined and have a current score on file. If you have not already done so, you must first apply to the CIVIL ENGINEER TRAINEE (ONLINE EXAM) posting and follow the directions provided.- PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
- You must be able to perform essential job functions.
- You must possess a valid Class C driver's license.
