NHS Grampian would like to invite applicants to apply for an exciting opportunity in Surgical and Medical Specialties within NHS Grampian.
The Clinical Developmental Fellowship (CDF) Programme is suitable for Trainees who have completed the UK Foundation Programme in August 2022 or will complete this by August 2023, Core Surgical Training or Core Medical Training. These posts are from 2 August 2023 until 6 August 2024.
The CDF Programme comprises of experience in Acute Clinical Specialties in both Medicine and Surgery. Each placement lasts 6 months, therefore if you accept a post for the year you will undertake 2 x 6 month placements.
In addition to the Clinical component you will be assigned to an area of developmental interest in collaboration with the University of Aberdeen: such as Medical Education and Simulation training, Quality Improvement, Research and Development, or Leadership and Management. These activities will be supported through a mentorship programme.
This year we are also offering to a successful applicant an opportunity to become an Academic CDF. This applicant should have a strong career aspiration to become a Medical Researcher or a Medical Educator. The University of Aberdeen can provide the following to support your development towards this Career as follows:
1 - An Honorary Contract with Medical School at the University of Aberdeen and use of University library facilities
2 - Academic Mentor or Education Academic Mentor
3 - Research project or pedagogic evaluation/ significant piece of curriculum development
4 - Optional research to publication course- online 200 hrs module from BMJ which must be completed within 6 months; or working towards a qualification in education or recognition by one of the national bodies e.g. PgCert Clinical Education.
Successful candidates will be contracted for 40 hours per week – 32 hours per week on average undertaking clinical activities; 8 hours per week on average will be protected for developmental activities and there will be an out-of-hours commitment. The post holder will be paid at ST level based on their previous experience. A banding supplement relevant to the OOH component of their rotas will also be received.
These posts are of high educational value and are supported by the University of Aberdeen Medical School however, they are not recognised for training by the Postgraduate Dean.
