Fixed Term, Full Time
Up to £28,432 per annum

The Opportunity
Active Essex, the strategic lead for Sport and Physical activity in Greater Essex, is recruiting a Children and Young People Projects Officer to support the work of the Children and Young People strategic priority. We are hosted by Essex County Council and sit within the Wellbeing, Public Health & Communities function.
In July 2021, Active Essex launched “Fit for the Future” a ground-breaking 10-year strategy for physical activity and sport owned by the whole Essex eco-system and the system settings within our place. This translates into implementation and delivery via a strategic priority and place-based approach as a way of working.
Fit for the Future has five strategic priorities, one of which is Children and Young People. We believe every Essex child should have the best start so they can lead a healthy, active, happy and resilient life. Positive experiences of being active at an early age are much more likely to mean an active adulthood.
This is an exciting post suitable for an enthusiastic candidate who is passionate about changing the lives of children and young people.
This role is an Anywhere Worker, working from home (or another location), attending team meetings in the Chelmsford office as and when required (currently around 3 to 4 times a month). You will be expected to travel to meet partners, attend events and work from County Hall, Chelmsford, as required.
Accountabilities
- Leading on Active Lives Survey collection from Schools
- Leading on the Daily Mile programme in Essex
- Supporting with administrative tasks that ensure the Children and Young People delivery plan
- Successful delivery of children and young people projects which include opening school facilities, girls’ football hubs, school games, active lives survey and the daily mile
- Providing reporting and impact data on the above as requested
- Working across the business with our place-based Relationship Hub Teams to implement the Children and Young People strategic theme of work in places across Essex
- Responsible for establishing strong links and influencing the case of sport and physical activity internally and externally
- Responsible for ensuring services are co-designed through the gathering and monitoring of data, customer insight and user feedback to identify service improvements and incorporate these into refined plans
- Deputising for the Senior Children and Young People Projects Officer if and where required
- Supporting the wider Active Essex Implementation plan delivery as and when required
- Responsible for acting as a strong advocate for equality and diversity in sport and physical activity to ensure that equality is embedded in all Active Essex developments.

- Can demonstrate the Active Essex values
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to support and lead on multiple projects simultaneously, prioritise and meet deadlines
- Strong relationship management and communication skills with proven results and consistently high levels of customer satisfaction
- Demonstrable experience of delivering successful projects with clearly defined outcomes at a County and/or local level with evidence of strong impact
- Experience of effective working within a team environment and liaising with a wide range of local and national contacts/stakeholders; good communication and inter-personal skills with the ability to persuade, negotiate and influence stakeholders using both spoken and written word
- Proven experience of supporting positive stakeholder relationships or customer services in line with priority organisations for Active Essex’s mission
- Proven experience in the provision and delivery of high-quality sports development and physical activity projects and programmes
- Can demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development and knowledge in relevant professional area
- Understanding of tackling inequalities and the role that physical activity has in positively changing the lives of children and young people and their families.
