Recruiting Children's Residential Support Workers to work in a small residential home setting for children and young people who are healing from trauma and adverse childhood experiences.

Our homes are in Derby, close to the city centre and all amenities. Each home has three bedrooms for three children and young people who are supported by a family of support workers and qualified professionals.

Our young people may have experienced neglect, violence or abuse. They may have previously been in an environment where their emotional needs had not been met. They may have been exposed to substance misuse, criminality, domestic violence for example.

Adverse Childhood Experiences can have lasting, negative effects on their health and well-being as well as life opportunities such as education and job potential. These experiences can also increase risk of injury, teen pregnancy, involvement in sex trafficking and suicide.

  • Location: Derby
  • Starting rate: £30,559 for inexperienced/unqualified staff this will rise to £31,087 after a successful probationary period (six-months)
  • Senior starting rate £31,820 rising to £33,140

Shift Patterns and Hours:

  • 3-week rolling rota
  • Totalling 56-hours per week
  • Waking hours between 8am and 10.30pm + sleep in duties when the rota requires - YOU WILL BE PAID AN HOURLY RATE FOR SLEEPING HOURS
  • Sleep-in duties essential - You must be able to work a full shift
  • Weekends will be included on the rota (the service operates 24/7)

An example of the rota:

  • WK 1 = Monday, Thursday, and Sunday
  • WK 2 = Tuesday and Saturday
  • WK 3 = Wednesday and Friday

We are recruiting a new team who are child-focused, committed, and who understand the complexities of childhood trauma and how this can truly impact on behaviour and life. To join our team you should show your understanding of trauma and you should either have had some previous experience of working within challenging work environments, for example, mental health hospitals, youth offenders/adult prisons OR you should be able to highlight some valuable skills, for example de-escalating difficult situations.

For this role you need the following:

  • Full UK Driving License (preferred)
  • Own transport would be an advantage although you should have use of company vehicles whilst on shift
  • Understanding of any of the following would be a big advantage Trauma, CSE, Trafficking, CCE, PTSD, EBD, ADHD, Attachment Difficulties
  • A willingness to train and to achieve your L4 Diploma in children's residential care or your management qualification if you already hold this
  • Able and willing to sleep in when the rota requires (essential)

Day to day responsibilities:

  • Care and support young people with challenging behaviour, trauma, attachment issues, mental health, ADHD, and autism and various other barriers
  • Foster positive relationships, encouraging strong bonds between you and the children and young people
  • Value and nurture each child as an individual with talents, strengths and capabilities
  • You will advocate for the rights of our children and young people to influence positive change in their circumstances
  • Share domestic and non domestic routines and establish boundaries of acceptable behaviour
  • You will help with their learning and development, help them with such matters as budgeting, education and training, employment and staying safe
  • Supporting emotional, mental and physical health needs including building self-esteem and helping to rebuild and repair earlier damage
  • You will work with the wider system of professionals and children's families and the community
  • SENIORS may deputise in the absence of Team Leaders/Deputy's
  • Create play and activities
  • Attend meetings and reviews
