Job Title: Chief Technical Officer (CTO)

Contract: Permanent

Hours of Work: Monday to Friday

Salary/package: In the range of £75k - £80k, commensurate with experience plus generous benefits package.

General Purpose

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Technical Officer (CTO) to join our leadership team and drive the technical direction of the company. As the CTO, you will play a critical role in developing and executing our technical strategy and ensuring the successful delivery of innovative EV solutions to our customers.

Key accountabilities

  • Develop and execute the company's technical strategy, aligning it with the overall business goals and objectives.
  • Lead the research and development efforts to design, develop, and optimise EV products and solutions, including hardware, software, and systems.
  • Drive innovation and stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in EV technologies, identifying opportunities to leverage new technologies to enhance our products and services.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sub-contractors and operations, to ensure seamless integration and delivery of EV solutions.
  • Build and manage a high-performing technical team, providing leadership, mentorship, and guidance to foster a culture of innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and certifications in the EV domains.
  • Represent the company's technical capabilities and expertise to customers, partners, and stakeholders, building and maintaining strong relationships to drive business growth.
  • Participate in strategic planning, budgeting, and resource allocation activities to support the company's growth objectives.
  • Stay updated with market trends, competitive landscape, and customer needs, providing strategic insights and recommendations to the executive team.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong technical expertise in technologies, e.g. renewable energy, EVs, smart grid, energy storage, transportation infrastructure, sustainable buildings, battery systems, charging infrastructure, or connected car technologies.
  • Strong focus on innovation, product development, and commercialisation.
  • Experience in managing and leading technical teams, including recruitment, performance management, and talent development.
  • Excellent strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to balance technical and business considerations.
  • Responsible for establishing both the long-term strategy and technology roadmap, as well as the short-term, tactical goals and objectives to ensure annual commitments are delivered.
  • Candidates must have the ability to define the long-term technology strategy as a member of the senior leadership team, while also addressing the hands-on tactical needs of the business at all levels.
  • Candidates must understand the extended enterprise and have an appreciation for value creation and must understand the overall vision for the business in order, to align the technical strategy, with the overall business strategy.
  • Candidates will have a demonstrated ability to apply an analytical process-driven approach to include appropriate KPI’s, in order to be proactive in all technical matter.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic startup environment.
  • Passion for sustainable transportation and commitment to driving positive environmental impact through EV solutions.

Desirable Criteria

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience working in a similar role within the renewables or EV industry is desirable.
  • Familiarity with relevant industry standards, regulations, and certifications in the EV domains.
