Job Purpose The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at London Transport Museum will be responsible for overseeing the financial strategy, financial management and corporate services of the Museum. As a member of the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) this key leadership role will contribute to the museum's mission to harness our transport collections and the expertise and ingenuity of our people and partners to make a difference to people’s lives and London’s future. The post holder will be at the centre of LTMs strategic and operational resource management and will oversee the core business support functions of finance, HR, and Procurement. The post holder will be actively involved in all material business decisions, ensuring that the immediate and longer-term implications, and the opportunities and risks are fully considered enabling the LTM Director, SLT, Trustees, and Directors of the Trading company to make commercially sound business decisions and understand the risks and progress. The role is for a commercially aware leader, who can communicate with impact, and who is able to shape strategic direction, and develop a vision and culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and learning, while effectively managing a broad range of strategic relationships, with the ability to encourage productive collaboration at all levels. The role will deputise for the Director as and when required by overseeing the day-to-day performance of the organisation. Key Accountabilities 1. Financial Planning and Strategy: Develop and implement the museum's financial strategies, objectives, and policies to support its long-term goals including investments and reserves. Monitor financial performance, analyse trends, and provide strategic recommendations to optimize revenue generation and cost management. Conduct regular financial forecasting, budgeting, and reporting to ensure the museum's financial health and sustainability. 2. Financial Management: Oversee all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and cash flow management for organisation with a £17m turnover Ensure compliance with financial regulations, accounting principles, and best practices. Implement and maintain robust financial control systems to safeguard the museum's assets and minimise risks. Oversee capital investment and support delivery. 3. Strategic Partnerships and Funding: Collaborate with internal stakeholders, external partners, and funders to develop financial strategies and secure funding opportunities. Provide financial guidance for grant applications, sponsorship agreements, and other fundraising initiatives. Build and maintain strong relationships with TfL, financial institutions, and other relevant entities 4. Corporate Services Deliver the Museum’s HR Strategy, Policies, Finances, Reporting and oversee operations within the Director’s Office Deliver the Museum’s property strategy, negotiating and securing appropriate long term accommodation and opportunities. Liaise with TfL including Legal Commercial Development and Procurement functions within TfL for guidance and corporate compliance. Manage the Museum’s organisation- wide risk register and strategy and advise on and drive the implementation of appropriate systems and reporting arrangements to help identify measure and to control corporate and business risks. 5. Team Leadership and Development: Lead and manage direct reports effectively, fostering a high-performance, can-do and supportive culture, and ensuring professional development opportunities. Provide guidance, support, and mentoring to team members (c 6-7 people in Finance), promoting collaboration and efficient workflow. Collaboration with the Head of Director’s Office and team (c 4-5 people) on governance issues and reporting and leadership with relevant support areas such as HR Support team members in the MMT to ensure they are active and collaborative contributors to the Museum’s inclusive culture. 6. Leadership, Board Engagement and Reporting: Support the Museum Director to apply developments in charity governance & practice appropriately to the Museum, and in programming & driving appropriate governance board agendas, provide input & guidance to Board trustees, Enterprise Directors. Support the Museum Director to deliver the strategy, taking a lead on the ‘Get Stuff Done’ strategic priority and the Finance Roadmap to achieve Financial Sustainability. Present financial updates, reports, and recommendations to the Board of Trustees, Trading Board, SLT, and relevant committees. Advise the Board on financial matters, risk assessment, and investment strategies to enable informed decision-making.
