Chief Data Scientist

Chief Data Scientist London, England

Macquarie Group Limited
Full Time London, England 10.56 - 12.04 GBP Today
Job description

As Chief Data Scientist within Macquarie's Commodities Markets and Finance (CMF) division you will be responsible for building a global data analytics capability to increase data awareness and identify opportunities to leverage our information assets, enabling data informed actions across our business. You will achieve this through a program of education & training, data product development, and analytics technology leadership.

You will be passionate about developing communities of practise across our business, bringing people together to understand the potential of data & analytics and adopting best practises. To compliment this, you will develop a formal education and training program to uplift CMF’s capabilities in the understanding and use of data & analytics to derive real business value.

Working in close partnership with desk analysts, traders, and related teams, you will leverage your track record of consistent delivery and customer obsession to provide data analytics products of value across the CMF business using an agile methodology. In addition to this flow of near-term value deliverables, you will work with senior business management to propose, initiate, and manage innovation projects to push the boundaries of what’s possible at Macquarie: sponsoring moonshot initiatives to make blue-sky ideas around data, digitisation, and automation real. This role provides a unique opportunity to combine both operational delivery and visionary innovation.

Your experience of leading the development and use of data analytics technologies will allow you to act as product owner of CMF’s data analytics platforms: guiding the technology organisation on priorities and direction in the development of easy to use, governed and compliant, advanced data platforms. You will provide leadership and sponsorship for the development and adoption of new, innovative data analytics technologies and external services for CMF.

This unique opportunity to build out a green field function within an existing, successful commodities organisation is unparalleled. To ensure its success you will draw upon your experience of successfully building and growing new green-field teams and capabilities, within the context of a large, mature global organisation. You will be able to build strong relationships with staff across seniorities, global locations, and business lines to advance CMF’s data agenda.

There is an increasing importance attached to regulations relating to data, analytics, and AI. A deep appreciation of the role of risk management, compliance and governance on data and analytics, and the vision to develop data and analytics capabilities that are compliant by default will be key to the long-term success of the role.

As CMF Chief Data Scientist, you will have had exposure to financial and energy markets and to leading global teams. You will have a background in analytics with an advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D) in an engineering or mathematical subject.
