ADEY R&D LABORATORY
The Adey Laboratory was established in 2013 with the key objective of developing and growing the existing and new range of products and services by Adey Innovation Ltd. This position will be part of a highly innovative chemistry team driven by national and global agendas. Further to this, the ADEY R&D laboratory is the only NSF CIAS testing laboratory in the UK that is accredited to UKAS 17025 standards.
JOB DESCRIPTION
A Chemistry Development Technician is sought to start as soon as possible at the Adey Research Centre. Under the direction of the Chemistry Development Manager, the post holder will be expected to assist in the operation of the ADEY R&D / Product
Testing laboratory with particular focus on current and future chemical and technical products. This includes a range of activities including:
- Testing of samples using industry standard NSF CIAS test methods.
- Calibrating and maintaining laboratory instrumentation to UKAS 17025 standards.
- Maintaining stock of consumables within the lab.
- Production QC testing and release.
- Keeping up with laboratory check sheet tasks, including weekly and monthly checks.
- Conducting laboratory testing on current and future chemical products.
- Analysing test result data and writing project reports
- Preparation and checking of standards and test solutions.
- Assisting with annual audits
- Upkeep of personal training records.
- Commitment to continuous improvement through adherence to ISO 17025 quality systems.
- Keeps neat and tidy working areas and practices.
CHALLENGES:
The work involves a wide variety of advanced level scientific and technical tasks. The successful candidate must be flexible, keen, and comfortable with working both alone under own initiative with a high degree of autonomy & maturity, and within a wider team. Excellent communication skills both verbal and written are essential as the post holder will be expected to communicate in and between R&D teams both on site at Sittingbourne and in the wider ADEY business.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL BASE:
- A degree or equivalent in Chemistry and preferably an understanding of corrosion chemistry.
- Experience of working within a laboratory environment preferably within a formulation development role.
- Able to adopt a methodical approach to work with accuracy with a high attention to detail.
- Able to organise and prioritise workload with flexibility to respond positively to changing demands.
- High degree of computer literacy including the use of programmes such as Excel, Word with a good level of spreadsheet and database expertise. Statistical knowledge preferable
- Project management skills desirable
