Catering for 35 to 100 per day; lunch and evening meals depending on the size of the home, plus additional cooked breakfasts as required
Lone working may be required from time to time
Strong craft back ground be able to cook, knowledge of working with and
preparing special diets, e.g. gluten free meals, vegetarian food and modified and
fortified meals
Service Users, relatives, families and friends of the Unit
- Contractors for repairs and maintenance of equipment
- Regular contact with the Registered Manager, Deputy, admin staff and nursing
and care staff
Essential requirements:
- Working knowledge of H&S practises in the kitchen*
- Level 2 in food safety*
- Level 2 Food and cooking qualification
- Proven track record in a variety of catering establishments
- Experience of cooking in a similar environment
- Allergen awareness and practical application to ensure food safety for
- service users and visitors*
- Understanding of special dietary requirements associated with the elderly,
- including dysphagia and modified meals *
- Excellent organisational skills
- Able to stay calm and problem solve
- Good communication skills
- Computer literate (word, excel, outlook)
Desirable requirements
- Level 2 or higher in Nutrition and special diets
- Dementia awareness
- Front of house meal service
- Proven team leadership skills
- Previous experience of catering for a minimum of 35 covers (dependent on size
of home)
- Good working knowledge of food hygiene practices (including hazard analysis
and critical control points), ensuring food is dated and labelled and stored
correctly.
- Able to complete written records such as record books and cleaning schedules
- Able to work as part of a team and use initiative to deal with problems in a
practical way and respond appropriately where additional help is required or in an
emergency
- Show commitment to HCC values in all respects of your role, being a positive
ambassador the Adults Health and Care, upholding policies and statutory
legislation as a minimum standard.
- Able to relate appropriately to disabled people
Able to work calmly and assertively in difficult situations
- Willing to participate in staff training and participate in personal development
through supervision and appraisal, be responsible for your own continual
professional development (CPD) and seek to improve your own skills to the
benefit of the business.
- Person centred approach to delivering a high quality catering service
- Good organisational skills, prioritise workloads
- Ensure equipment is looked after and maintained in good working order, reporting
any non conformances and breakdowns to the Chef Manager/Maintenance team
in a timely manner using the correct local procedures.
