Job description
Passionate about Volunteering and empowering others?
Our passionate volunteers enable us to make difference to thousands of dogs and their owners and we have a unique opportunity for a Training and Development Officer to provide ongoing training and development for Community Education and Engagement volunteers and the staff that manage them.
Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK with a nationwide network of rehoming centres and charity shops. Last year, Dogs Trust centres cared for over 15,000 dogs; we never put a healthy dog down
The Canine Education and Engagement (CEE) department collaborates with the Intervention Development team to create interventions aimed at changing the behaviour of dog owners and other stakeholders regarding dog acquisition, bite prevention, and unwanted behaviours. And our Volunteers are essential for the success of these interventions.
As a Training and Development Officer for our Canine Education and Engagement (CEE) program, you will have the opportunity to write and deliver training materials for our CEE volunteers and the team members that manage them. Working collaboratively with our Training and Development Manager, Deputy Director CEE, and other members of the Professional Development team, you will cover a range of topics, including recruitment, induction training, basic training skills and techniques, delivery and presentation skills, and subject knowledge.
You will have the chance to use your skills to create engaging and informative pre-recorded webinars and training sessions that will be uploaded to our Learning Management System (LMS) platform. This means our volunteers can access training at their own convenience, helping them to support our CEE program and the wider Dogs Trust community.
As part of your responsibilities, you will also support the identification of training and learning needs required for CEE team members to support volunteers, as well as training that will benefit volunteers directly.
With experience of developing training aimed at volunteers you will be well versed in writing and delivering presentations that are both scientifically accurate and engaging to both the public and staff. A strong communicator you will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of learning and teaching people.
