St Joseph’s Independent Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Catering Assistant to join our Catering department.
The general working hours are Monday to Sunday between the hours of 7am-8pm.

St Joseph's is located north of the city of Newport within the popular area of Malpas lying just outside the boundary of Monmouthshire. Two miles north of the M4 motorway, the hospital is easy to access from Cardiff, Bristol, Monmouth, and Abergavenny, just to mention a few.
Duties and Responsibilities
Working as part of a team assisting in the service and preparation of all catering requirements. This will include the delivery and service to ward patients, functions/hospitality and customers in the cafe. There will be some preparation and service of food within the kitchen and restaurant when required.
Working as part of a team ensuring that all required duties are up to date and that all duties are carried out on a regular basis as directed, in line with the departmental task sheets.
To be able to work effectively as part of a team and be able to adopt a flexible approach to how and when duties are undertaken whilst ensuring that all service users are the focal point of activities.
Working as part of a team and prioritise activity to ensure that a quality service is provided.
Conduct yourself in a highly professional manner at all times, displaying exemplary customer service skills, enhancing the patient experience.
To assist in the service of food and drinks to patients and visitors and staff.
To keep the Main and Ward kitchens, food trolley and all areas hygienically clean and have a complete understanding and awareness of the statutory food safety regulations and the Hospital’s own standards.
To always work within the Health & Safety guidelines set out in the Catering Operational Procedures and HACCP.
To maintain an effective system of communication with the Catering Supervisor, Chef Team and the Hotel Services Manager.
To assist with the undertaking of food safety monitoring.
To report any maintenance requirements immediately to the Catering Supervisor and Hotel Services Manager.
To report any building/infrastructure defects to the Estates Helpdesk and the Catering Supervisor and Hotel Services Manager.
To undertake any other duties, within reason, as designated by the Catering Supervisor and Hotel Services Manager i.e., including but not limited to additional cleaning tasks, assisting with deliveries and stock control, and supporting the front of house team in the Café at peak times.
Undertake basic food preparation, in both the main kitchen and the ward kitchen
What you need to know
Essential
Maths and English GCSE
Proven ability to work on own initiative
Experience of being in a customer-facing role
Knowledge of food safety systems, HACCP, and dealing with Allergens
Evidence of good literacy skills and the ability to understand instructions, guidance, policies and procedures
Knowledge of COSHH
Desirable
Level 2 award in food safety or equivalent
FSA food allergy Training
Relevant experience of working in a catering environment
Experience in a healthcare environment and working with patients
Basic food preparation skills
