Buying at ORL
The buying team is responsible for putting the customer at the heart of everything we do, truly living and breathing what our customers want to see when they shop with us! Our team of buyers curates their ranges to deliver the unique customer experience gleaned from the largest range in the industry. They analyse consumer buying patterns, predict future trends, and work alongside our suppliers to maximise our offering to our customers. All of this is coupled with regularly reviewing performance indicators and profitability to manage the performance of their categories. No day is the same as our buyers continually work to ensure we offer the right products, at the right time in the right place!
The Role
As a Category Assistant (Administrator) you will provide administrative support to the Senior Buying Manager and the supporting team for your category. Based on our offices in Hatfield 3 days a week and 2 remotely, you will be responsible for a variety of administrative tasks with a key focus on accuracy and efficiency to ensure the product range is optimised to support the overall Ocado Retail strategy and goals
Key Accountabilities
- Ensure all administrative tasks for allocated suppliers are set up and managed as agreed between the Buyer and Supplier, this includes managing and updating the pricing of products, setting up new suppliers and ensuring product checks are carried out in comparison to competitors.
- Ensure a good understanding of cost and retail price and work with the supplier to set up products
- Work with the Buyer and Supply Chain to ensure all product lines are organised and ranged on the website correctly, this includes daily ranging of new product lines, delisting obsolete items, and managing masters assortment (managing buyers MA) substitutes and alternatives in line with company guidelines.
- Check product information are accurate and in line with company guidelines, ensuring product attributes are correct and source new line information from suppliers
- Provide daily and weekly reports to buying team as required and any other bespoke or ad hoc requests from the Buyers
- Set up and maintain all promotional activity within the critical path ensuring you run reports to check the start and end dates for live promotions, continuously monitor communications with stakeholders surrounding the legality of promotions
- Understand and support in critical path management tasks for behaviours, submissions and promotions
- Support income and margin funding are raised on the system
- Raise invoices correctly to suppliers
- Support with the delivery of promotional activity
- Assist the call centre in a timely manner with responses to customer queries in conjunction with the Buyer
- Maintenance of supplier database
- Support with cross-functional tasks as required across all buying categories
- Adhere to Ocado Retail values and comply with GSCOP and Competition Law
- Ad Hoc tasks
Experience
- Strong administrative skills including word and excel
- Previous administrative experience in a fast-paced retail or buying environment
Qualifications
- Minimum GCSE or equivalent

- Numeracy and Accuracy - Strong attention to detail to handle key commercial and product data (attention to detail is key) Excel
