You’ll usually work in the child/young person’s local community however you may be required to travel to other parts of the city depending on where the activity is based.
As this post is casual your working hours can range from 2 hours up to a maximum of 7.5 hours per shift depending on the assess need and activity.
What you’ll be doing
Providing support to access services, activities, and groups, you’ll also supervise and participate in activities with children, young people as and when required enabling them to develop their skills and make friends - providing the parents and carers a valuable break from their caring roles. This could include taking the child or young person swimming, to a youth club, to the local park, adventure playground, trip to the cinema or trampolining park, etc. You’ll complete relevant paperwork in relation to the child/young person and activity undertaken to provide feedback to the allocated worker following the short break session. You’ll ensure that any necessary risk assessments are in place prior to the offer of support including ensuring personal or complex care needs are met.
What you’ll need
You’ll have previous experience of working with children and young people with disabilities and complex needs. With strong understanding of inclusion and equality issues, and the development needs of children, you’ll create, arrange, and support a range of suitable activities. Using excellent verbal and written communication skills you’ll liaise with community, leisure, voluntary groups, community and other agencies and services to identify and organise activities which are appropriate and meet the needs of disabled children. You’ll be enthusiastic and creative in your approach to ensure children receive positive.
