Job description
To provide general Security of the site by internal and external patrolling, access and egress control and other duties that exceed customer requirements and complies with Assignment Instructions, with a focus on customer service and care.
Reports to: Shift Manager
Security
- Provide security of Perimeter fence and access and egress controls
- Operate external and internal security patrols as per the Standard Operating Procedures
(SOP’s) - Operate radios, and any other physical equipment used on site.
- Provide traffic control and apply parking restrictions when required.
- Operate stop and search policies when instructed by GSK.
- Carry out initial investigations and report both verbally and in writing on incidents,
suspicious activities, objects, and vehicles. - Report instances of property at risk of being lost, stolen, damaged and vandalised.
- Carry out routine tests of security equipment as directed by G4S Managerial staff.
- Perform locking and unlocking duties.
- Ensure keys are handled in accordance with procedures laid down in the SOP’s.
- Respond to requests for assistance.
- Fully understand the use of relevant I.T equipment and the GSK I.T. Security policy.
- Enforce a clear desk policy.
- Enforce the display of ID badges.
- Display an outstanding level of customer focus and understand the reasons for it
- Enforce access and egress procedures stated in SOPs in a polite but assertive manner.
- Ability to take responsibility for problems that staff, and visitors may have
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to take responsibility and deal with conflict situations
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals on
all levels. - Display the highest standard of personal presentation to maintain the image of both GSK
and G4S.
Fire and Emergencies
- Ensure emergency escape routes are kept free from obstruction.
- Support the routine tests of fire prevention equipment and alarms
- Investigate cause of Fire Alarm activation.
- Undertake fire prevention patrols.
- Fully understand and be able to carry out the role required in emergency situations.
- Record and report to Site Supervisor all faults, health and safety hazards and unsafe working
practices. - Ensure all walkways are always kept clear.
- Enforce health and safety procedures.
- Respond to calls for first aid/de-fib and administer treatment or summon medical help as
appropriate - Report shortfalls in contents of first aid boxes to Site Supervisor.
- Provide accurate and timely information for the preparation of reports and complete as
necessary. - Maintain logbooks and records as laid out in the SOP’s.
- Issue visitor/contractor passes as laid down in the SOP’s.
- Issue temporary GSK ID passes as laid down in the SOP’s.
- Deal with lost property in accordance with the SOP’s.
- Answer telephone calls as laid down in the SOP’s.
- Responsible for ensuring that the out of hours escalation process is implemented in the
event of emergencies. - Report all faults with Security systems and record as per site process.
- Report instances of property at risk of being lost, stolen, damaged and vandalised.
- Good literacy and communication skills and have good verbal and written English.
- Possess a good telephone manner.
- Be computer literate in Microsoft Excel, Word.
