Swindon Libraries are looking for staff to join our current team of Casual Library and Information Assistants (Casual LIAs) to work “as and when required” basis.
Casual LIAs cover annual leave and sickness for library staff. This work may be at any of the SBC run libraries in Swindon. There will be some single staffing required and locking and unlocking of buildings.
We are looking for people that can be flexible and work between the hours of:
- 9:00am and 7:00pm weekdays
- 9:30am and 4.30pm Saturdays
- 10:30am and 3.30pm Sundays
Shifts can be between 3 – 7 hours long. Most shifts are agreed 1 month in advance but shifts may be requested at short notice to cover sickness.
Your next role
The Library and Information Assistants (LIA) role is challenging and varied. LIAs are responsible for providing frontline services to customers, local residents and visitors at libraries across Swindon. This includes helping customers to access physical and online information, supporting customers in their use of IT, encouraging reading and promoting events.
LIAs deliver children’s activities e.g. story times and class visits as well as supporting other library promotional events. They also support volunteers and volunteer activities.
LIAs are responsible for providing tourist information to visitors and residents, including booking events and travel tickets for customers and promoting and selling merchandise.
Casual LIAs may be asked to work at any branch across the Swindon Library network.
You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act “for the effective performance of a customer-facing role”).
