Job Summary
As Cashier, the employee is responsible for the timely receipting of payments for student accounts and other income. The Cashier will also cash checks, disperse petty cash, process credit card transactions, process online payment transactions, and handle purchasing duties that consist of receiving departmental purchase order requests and coordinating the buying and distributing of requests.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
- Receipt payments for student accounts and other income.
- Cash campus employee/student checks according to university policy.
- Balance reports and cash drawer.
- Process order requests (Amazon, Staples, etc.). Once the orders arrive, check the orders in and notify the person/department who placed the order.
- Process credit card transactions.
- Process online payment transactions.
- Prepare manual and electronic bank deposit tickets and take deposits to the bank weekly or as needed.
- Assist with EX purchase order module set-up.
- Organize and maintain accurate filing system.
- Assist the accountant as needed.
- Prepare cash requests from Athletics-the Athletics Operations Coordinator.
- Submit check requests and receipts to the Accounts Payable Department.

- Use professionalism in communicating details of the university operations, ensuring confidentiality, integrity, and security.
- Excellent interpersonal and multitasking skills.
- Good organizational skills with a strong attention to detail including the ability to follow up on missing data or to clarify issues.
- Knowledge of business telephone etiquette.
- Ability to provide information to individuals by telephone and in person in a courteous manner.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with the public, students, and faculty/staff.
- Good self-motivating skills including the ability to manage or start new projects.
- Strong computer skills with preference in Excel and Outlook.
- Honest and trustworthy.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalency
- 1-3 years cashier/office or general accounting experience, preferred.
- Purchasing experience preferred
Working Conditions
This position is primarily sedentary, working at a desk in a climate-controlled office. Some standing or walking will be required to maintain files and obtain information.
