Overview:
We currently have a vacancy for a Cargo Superintendent (CSI). The position will be based in Southampton, UK.
  • Under the directon of Vessel Services Manager, ensure all activities associated with the turn-around of the vessels are undertaken in a safe, timely and efficient manner.
  • Managing cargo operations, maintain quality cargo handling procedures and damage prevention in accordance with WW’s processes and instructions.
  • Ensure all KPI’s are met, including but not limited to, meeting carriers cargo handling procedures; achieving units per hour; and carrying out these responsibilities to within the prescribed deadlines and costings.

Knowledge and Skills
  • Previous experience of CSI, Vessel Supervisor or Senior Operations role.
  • Leadership/management experience.
  • Knowledge in all aspects of rules and regulations associated with carrying out the duties outline in RA/SSOW and SOP’s.
  • Skilled in being able to communicate effectively both using verbal and written communications.
  • High level of computer literacy
  • Full clean driving Lance
  • Good knowledge about applicable IT-Systems (SPS, SAGA, Basware, COGNOS 8, VOP, iTOMs scanning, etc.)
  • Knowledge of work practices for Stevedores and labour (including labour ordering and capabilities)
Education/Qualifications
  • At least 5 years experience of working within the port industry, preferably on RoRo operations.
  • Industry related degree is preferable but not essential
  • Managing Safely at Work, IOSH Certifications would be a distinct advantage
  • Overall management responsibility for the safe, effective and timely loading and discharge of WW and third-party vessels.
  • On day before vessel working operations compile cargo information for loading and discharging activities and pre-plan for most efficient turn-around of vessel.
  • Discuss with the Vessel Supervisor these arrangements and ensure they check and familiarise themselves as to the nature and location of the cargo to be loaded/discharged.
  • Calculate the required resources - equipment via the Fleet Coordinator and labour via the Labour Coordinator.
  • Ensure that Vessel Loading and Discharging Operating procedures are in line with company and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all Safety briefings and equipment checks are carried out by the Vessel
  • Supervisors prior to commencement of activities.
  • Compile final preparation pack prior to start of vessel as possible to make sure the latest information is used.
  • Discuss with Chief Mate on outset of operations latest cargo info and agree discharge/loading requirements.
  • Monitor progress of vessel operations and adjust accordingly if not going according to plan.
  • Accurately keep up to date all information as required by various parties and inform them of progress.
  • Ensure all accident, injury or damage reporting procedures are adhered to.
  • Undertake any D&A testing as required and ensure all company procedures are strictly followed. Conduct preliminary investigations in a timely manner so as all evidence can be recorded.
  • On completion of operation ensure all Documentation and reports are completed accurately, on time and to expected quality standards.
  • Monitor the stevedore operations and performance throughout to improve cargo-handling methods, ensure compliance with WW standards, and make operations more cost effective.
