Due to staff changes we are looking for a qualified, dedicated, full-time Care Assistant to support our 25 residents at Abbeyfield House.
If you have an NVQ Level 2 Health and Social Care qualification, are passionate about providing honest, open and empathetic care for older people and have a professional, caring and flexible approach to your work, we would like to hear from you.
We will also consider unqualified applicants who have some experience of working with older people in either a social or health care setting, as long as you are willing to work towards the NVQ Level 2 qualification. Candidates should be 21 or over, but we will consider younger applicants who wish to train to be care assistants.
Hours are 36 per week/72 per fortnight in a combination of 12 hour and shorter shifts which include days, evenings, nights and weekends. We have recently awarded a pay rise to £11.90 per hour and statutory leave allowances apply. We provide uniform tunic as well as free or discounted food while you are on duty.

Experience of working with older people and/or people with dementia would be an advantage, but full training is given. We value people committed to developing their own skills too and provide support and encouragement for those staff with ambition to progress in their career.
The work is demanding and you will need to have the fitness and stamina for periods of standing, lifting and carrying.
Purpose of Job: To deliver all aspects of care to residents to ensure that their physical, social, intellectual and emotional needs are met, supporting dignity, choice, independence and respect and in accordance with the Home’s policies, procedures and values.
MAIN DUTIES:
- Ensuring that each resident receives assistance with all elements of their personal care as required
- Ensuring that residents’ choices and independence are respected
- Helping residents with mobility problems and other physical disabilities to use of aids and personal equipment.
- Helping with serving meals and assisting residents with eating as required
- Escorting residents to hospital out-patient appointments as required
- Ensuring that all regulations are met
- Consulting with residents and the senior team to assist in developing individual care plans for residents
- Participating in the key worker system as defined within the home
- Encouraging residents to be involved in the house and activities so that they can participate and remain emotionally and intellectually stimulated.
- Assisting as required with social functions at the Home.
- Supporting and working closely with families and friends offering them professional and emotional support, sensitive to individual need.

COVID-19 considerations:
Appropriate PPE is worn at all times. Staff have to provide evidence of a negative LFT when they come on shift, as do visitors. Residents are tested in accordance with current government guidelines.
