Job description

We are looking for:

  • Careers Advisor – Full time
  • £25,990 - £27,709 per annum plus excellent benefits

The Role:

Working from our Careers Hub, you will be responsible for the personal guidance of our students including those from targeted groups to ensure they are confident with their next steps. Keeping records of student meetings and creating action plans will be a key part of the 1:1 support you provide. You will also develop key relationships with curriculum teams and support the delivery of careers activities either directly to students or by providing resources, support and advice to staff for them to deliver.

Externally, you will liaise with universities, apprenticeship providers and employers to develop our provision and support staff and students to better understand the opportunities available to our students. You will need to provide information to curriculum which supports business planning such as labour market information and an understanding of the local area. You will occasionally work with the marketing team and attend school careers events to promote our offer.

The role will also support the delivery of key events such as careers week, apprenticeship week and open evenings where you will promote the services we offer. You will also access our online systems where you will promote careers support and associated resources.

You will have the support and work closely with our current careers Manager and advisors and will lead the careers provision in key quality activities such as Matrix and Ofsted. We are keen for this role to take an active approach to the development of our current provision.

Working within the wider Student Services team, you will also support key college activity such as enrolment and staff CPD days.

Joining our Journey:

When you join our college, our colleagues have access to numerous benefits and facilities:

  • Generous Pension Scheme
  • Fantastic Staff Benefits and Rewards platform
  • Very generous holiday entitlement (32 days plus Bank Holidays plus 2-week Festive period closure)
  • Employee Assistance Scheme
  • Enhanced Maternity/Paternity provision
  • Staff Development days/week (Jan, July, Aug)
  • Free confidential counselling service
  • Staff recognition awards
  • Subsidised car parking
  • On-site Day Nursery
  • On-site hair and beauty salon offering staff discounts

Oldham College is a great career choice for ambitious professionals. With a “good” Ofsted rating, one of the best apprenticeship programmes in the region, excellent 16-18 results and truly outstanding GCSE English results, we are already a high performer.

But we want to deliver much more than this. Our ambition is to be “The Best Place to Learn and Work” and we have a clear Strategic Plan which sets out what this means and what we will do to deliver it. We will keep on improving and innovating, and we are investing in new provision, new facilities and new technology.

We expect a lot from you, so we want ambitious, open minded candidates, who are ready to give their best. But we give a lot in return, from training to pensions, our own benefits package, and one of the best and most helpful group of colleagues you could ever wish to meet. That’s true, by the way – ask almost anyone who has been here. Or come and see for yourself.

If you want to be outstanding, and want to help us achieve the same thing, then please apply.

Oldham College is a medium sized general further education college, with a turnover of almost £25m. It has one main campus in the centre of town, and this in the third phases of a £40m redevelopment which began in 2012.

The College delivers a full range of work-related education and training, including 16-18 programmes of study, T levels, apprenticeships, adult learning and higher education. It has over 5000 full-time students and 600 undergraduates.

The College is in the top quartile for 16-18 programmes of study and English GCSE resits, and in apprenticeship provision, but is the second highest performing provider Greater Manchester. The quality of its higher education provision is better than many established universities.

Higher education is taught on a second, dedicated campus – University Campus Oldham (UCO), a short walk away. In this year’s National Student Survey, UCO received an Overall Satisfaction score of 89 per cent from learners studying all courses. This ranks it higher than all other Greater Manchester FE colleges – and is also 12.5 per cent above the HE sector average.

Oldham College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.

Any appointments will be subject to enhanced DBS checks and a check of the DfE Barred List
