Role Profile

Post: Care Assistant – day and/or night shifts

Grade: £11.40 days, £11.97 nights

Tenure: hours to be negotiated

Responsible to: Register Manager of Seton Care Home

PURPOSE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION:

To work as an integral member of the staff team in Seton Care Home offering each resident such support as is necessary to provide personalised care that meets each individual needs.

To provide a high standard of person-centred care, incorporating the safe guarding organisational policy recognising the resident as an individual and reflecting the philosophy of the Daughters of Charity and Seton Care Home. Each person working or associated with Seton Care Home will be treated with respect and regard. As an organisation we promote the value of trust and each person is valued as a trusted member of Seton Care and is expected to exhibit trust in the care and the service they are involved in. It is a value that ensures vulnerable adults who are in our care can ensure that they are in a safe environment.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities

Residents.

To provide a high standard of person-centred care, incorporating the local safe-guarding Organisational policy recognising the resident as a individual reflecting the philosophy of the Daughters of Charity and Seton Care Home.

  • To give each resident at all times due dignity and respect, facilitating opportunities for privacy.
  • To monitor residents at regular intervals determined by the Manager, attending to their individual need with particular awareness of personal safety of each resident.
  • To assist the resident to maximise their full potential given their limitation of age.

e.g. the resident physical, intellectual, social and spiritual needs.

  • To become familiar with and adhere to the planned care, support, rehabilitation or respite programme for each resident.
  • To maintain such written records as required, maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • To be alert to changes in a resident’s physical, emotional and psychological well-being and to record and to report to senior staff about this.
  • To escort resident to hospital appointments if requested to do so by the Manager.
  • To act as Keyworker to one or more of the residents and maintain the programme of the Keyworker system.
  • To assist, engage and involve residents with activities, interest and hobbies as drawn up with the resident.
  • To assist sensitively to the delivery of end of life care. To ensure full privacy and dignity is maintained for the dying and the bereaved, in line with Seton Care Home policies and procedures.
  • To be competent in the safe administration of medication to the Residents.

Staff

  • To work as a member of the staff team in order to ensure continuity of care
  • To attend regular staff meetings
  • To participate in staff training and development programmes and attend all mandatory training programmes as required, ensuring safe working practices are employed.
  • To be supported and enabled in skills development and personal development through regular supervision, training and annual appraisal in line with Seton’s Care Home policies and procedures.
  • To ensure that all information of confidential nature gained in the course of duty is not divulged to their partiies.
  • To ensure personal compliance with Seton Care Home policies and procedure and statutory regulations required in care homes as directed by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Department of Health (DH).
  • To undertake household/domestic duties in keeping with creating a homely environment.

e.g. Residents personal washing and ironing and serving meals etc.

General Duties

  • To main desired standards of behaviour, dress and general appearance with particular sensitivity to the needs of elderly persons.
  • To practice maximum integrity in all dealings with residents’ personal and financial affairs and avoid abuse of the privileged relationships that exists with residents.
  • To ensure a safe and healthy environment is provided and keep the manager informed of any safety hazards of needs.
  • To ensure the compliance of a high level of infection control is maintained throughout the home.
  • To participate in and ensure the elements of complaints, risk and health and safety are reflected in the care and services provided.
  • To ensure that resident’s rooms, personal clothing, equipment used e.g. wheelchairs, walking frames, hearing aids, spectacles are maintained and kept to quality standards.
  • To provide support and assist the registered manager.

Personnel

  • Maintain desired standards of behaviour, dress, general appearance and personal hygiene that gives an efficient and effective service delivery.
  • Ensure personal compliance with Seton Care Home policies and procedure including Health and Safety and Security Regulations.
  • Undertake annual staff training programme in Manual Handling, Fire and Smoke Safety and C.O.S.H.H awareness.
  • Practice in accordance with the aims and objectives of Seton Care Home.
  • Understand and adhere to the requirements of confidentiality in relation to residents and staff.
  • Attend regular meetings with the registered manager for reviews and updates.
  • Participate in regular supervision and annual appraisal to ensure you are supported and enabled in your development.
  • Offer a flexible approach to the role of Carer, to account for the varying needs and demands of the service delivered to Seton Care Home.

Additional Duties

It is the nature of the work of Seton Care Home that tasks and responsibilities are, in many circumstances unpredictable and varied and include weekend working. All staff are therefore, expected to work in a flexible way when tasks not specifically in their job description have to be undertaken.

Able to make observations and provide verbal and written reports.

Ability to empathise with residents whilst maintaining a polite professional and care attitude at all times

Ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team.

Ability to work on feet all day.

Assisting with bathing and toileting of residents, apply manual handling.

Physically fit.

Salary and Conditions of Service
The salient features of Conditions are as follows:

  • The salary will be in the range of £11.40 - £11.97
  • You will be automatically entered into the Nest Pension Scheme after three months with the option to opt out.
  • All offers of appointment are subject to receiving satisfactory references and medical clearance and DBS checks.
  • All appointments are subject to a probationary period.
