Are you looking for a rewarding, term-time only role supporting young people with disabilities to make the most of their time at college? Join award-winning National Star College in Mamhilad, near Pontypool, as a care and education support worker.

The young adults aged 16-25 years that learn with us as day students have big personalities and even bigger ambitions to make the most of their education so that they can live as independently as possible. Our committed staff team put students first in everything that they do, being proactive, dynamic and collaborative for the benefit of the learners, whatever their ability.

As a care and education support worker you will provide personal care and support with their therapeutic, social and educational activities. This may involve supporting our small cohort of students in the classroom, on trips out and about or in life skills sessions working alongside tutors, and physiotherapy, speech & language therapy, occupational therapy teams as well as our emotional well-being practitioner.

Enthusiasm, professionalism and a strong work ethic is essential, as well as being able to demonstrate a positive attitude towards the aspirations of young people with disabilities. We have a mix of male and female students and encourage applicants from a wide range of backgrounds who can use their interests to engage with and inspire our students. You will be a self-starter who can use your own initiative, be able to manage change and show resilience when things don’t go to plan.

Experience of working with people with learning and/or physical disabilities and a Level 2 qualification in care or learning support is desirable. However, many of our successful team members joined National Star from careers in hospitality or retail so applications are encouraged from people with no previous experience who can demonstrate future potential.

With glowing feedback from our latest Estyn inspection highlighting our supportive, nurturing and calm environment, we expect very high standards. In return we offer excellent training and development opportunities and support for you to develop your long-term career with us.

You will need to be available between 8.00am – 4:00 pm (5pm on Mondays for team meeting) Monday to Friday, for 39 weeks, term-time.
