Job description

An exciting opportunity to gain knowledge and skills as a canine carer in a dog day care/ hotel/ groomers environment.

Dogs arrive in the morning, are entertained in groups and go home at the end like a nursery. We have a woodland area that is fenced that groups go for walking in. We feed lunches, keep everywhere clean, top up water, play games and provide rest areas. Cleaning and observing dog behaviour is very important parts of the day. We also have a hotel block for overnight stays and we also have a grooming room which applicants can get involved in.

Duties will include but not limited to;

  • Cleaning
  • Collecting poo
  • Disinfecting both outside and inside areas, the hotel and the creche
  • Dealing with customers face to face
  • Spending time with the dogs, supervising play and learning when to intervene or not
  • Learning about dog communication in a pack environment and what is acceptable and not.

You will learn about breeds and cross breeds and how this affects their temperament in general but also how each is an individual. You will also learn how to respond to different behaviours such as nervousness and over the top play.

Qualifications

  • Applicants MUST NOT already hold a level 2 in Animal Care

Future Prospects

  • A full time role on completion if available.

Training

  • Full training to be provided by the employer and KEITS at the place of employment.
  • The applicant will be working towards and gain a Level 2 Animal Care & Welfare Apprenticeship Standard.
  • The learner will be allocated an industry specific training consultant who will provide both remote and on site visits throughout the apprenticeship.
  • The apprentice will work towards an End Point Assessment (EPA) at the end of their apprenticeship

  • The apprentice will be working to build a portfolio of evidence and will be required to pass a knowledge test and an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete the apprenticeship.

Salary: From £4.81 per hour

  • Weekend availability
