Wanted
To work in newly established community hub in the beautiful riverside village of Newnham on Severn:
CAFÉ & DEVELOPMENT MANAGER
Salary: £26,000 – £28,000 p.a.
Full-time: 40 hrs per week
We are looking for an exceptional person to manage our café and community spaces at The George. Our goal is to create a vibrant, welcoming, multi-purpose venue that will bring a buzz of activity back to our beautiful historic High Street – and as the leading member of our team, you’ll be at the heart of all that we hope to achieve for our village and the wider community.
In the café, you’ll be working hands-on behind the counter, serving customers, managing and motivating staff, dealing with suppliers, and organising, training and enthusing a team of volunteers. You’ll also play a key role in the wider development of the venue, reaching out to local user groups, building relationships and working with the management committee to ensure that all the amenities within the building are used to the full.
This is a real opportunity for someone with the right combination of skills to shape the future of our project. You’ll need to share our passion for all things local, sustainable and environment-friendly. You’ll be positive, outgoing, flexible, hardworking, highly organised, able to thrive under pressure and used to working within financial constraints. You’ll also be self-motivated – someone who likes a challenge, is committed to our values and genuinely wants to add to the life of the local community.
In return, we offer a competitive salary, excellent working conditions and the possibility of a discretionary performance-related bonus if agreed targets are met.
Hours of work
The café will be open initially from Wednesday through to Sunday. Hours of work will be 8.30 to 4.00pm weekdays, and 9.00 to 4.00pm at weekends. Work patterns may include Bank Holidays.

Who are we?
NoSCBS Ltd is a community benefit society with more than 200 active shareholders and many enthusiastic followers on social media. We were formed in January 2019 to save The George in Newnham High Street and re-establish it as a community hub. After a full public consultation, in March 2019 we published a detailed business plan and launched a community share offer which raised more than £145,000 from supporters in and around the village.
Last year, we successfully applied for a £247,500 government grant to help buy and fit out the building. The capital grant of £209,500 was matched pound for pound by funds we raised ourselves, with around £170,000 coming from local sources.
