Role
This company are a leading provider of cutting-edge 3D printing technology and services, based in Stone, Staffordshire. They are looking for a CAD Technician Intern to join their growing team and help enhance their service offering to new and existing customers.
This is a paid internship for a duration of six months with the possibility of extension. They offer a fun and dynamic work environment, and the opportunity to work in a growth industry using industry leading technology.
There is potential for flexible hours including part time work (minimum 3 days per week)
Duties and responsibilities
As a CAD Technician intern you’ll report directly to the Managing Director and take the lead with customer design and reverse engineering projects, be they in-house or externally delivered. On a project by project basis, you’ll work with customers to understand requirements, define scope, estimate the effort required and see the project through to completion, delivering on-time and to budget. You’ll have experience of designing for additive manufacturing (3d printing) either in an educational or hobby context, perhaps even going as far as to manufacture your designs with your own hobby level 3d printer.
The company are looking for candidates with a genuine interest in engineering, manufacturing or 3d printing who will be able to translate their passion for the subjects into innovative designs and end products that help the customers understand the value and potential of both additive manufacturing (3d printing)
Primary Responsibilities:
- Create and modify CAD models for a range of 3D printing applications, including prototyping and production.
- Collaborate with customers and team to ensure that designs meet technical specifications and are optimized for 3D printing.
- Complete in-house 3d scanning as a basis for reverse engineering of customer projects.
- Review and edit existing CAD models to correct errors and improve performance.
- Participate in design reviews and contribute to the development of new product designs.
- Support the team in testing and troubleshooting 3D printed parts.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of all CAD files and designs.
Secondary Responsibilities:
- Assist with the day to day operations of the business when needed
- Supporting the sales process with customer enquiries and development of sales support materials such as reference documents,
Skills and experience
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- Proficiency in CAD software, preferably Autodesk Fusion 360.
- Familiarity with 3D printing and additive manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with 3D scanning and reverse engineering principles and process.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Willingness to learn and take on new challenges.
