Requisition Summary:
Kenworth Truck Company is seeking a Lead CAE Durability Engineer to support Product Development and Validation by using CAE to analyze new designs and provide design recommendations to meet functional/performance requirements. Job Functions / Responsibilities:
- Analyze components, sub-assemblies, assemblies, and full vehicle using FEA tools (such as ABAQUS, LS-DYNA, Altair products), Fatigue life calculation tools (such as nCode, Fe-safe)
- Develop DFMEA driven upfront CAE scope, performance requirement targets, and plan for Design Development and Validation for Durability, Stiffness, NVH and Strength
- Guide Engineering Design in the development, tuning and optimization to create durable components and assemblies
- Lead component, sub-systems, and vehicle testing to correlate CAE models
- Collaborate with suppliers/vendors to improve the material database and accuracy of CAE models
- Develop and refine CAE analysis procedures and process through method development and capability enhancements
- Collaborate with Property Owner for Durability/NVH for new vehicles
- Conduct or coordinate work with internal & external CAE and test resources including other PACCAR divisions
- Collaborate with Property Owner to conduct or coordinate benchmark tests of PACCAR and competitive vehicles
- Deliver CAE reports stating clear recommendations and proposals for improvements to Engineering teams
- Manage delivery of outsourced CAE activities
- Develop technology roadmaps for Kenworth simulation and analysis toolset
- Mentor vehicle engineers in the principles of design for Structural Durability, Fatigue, and NVH
Qualifications:
Technical Skills (required):
- 7+ years of experience with Implicit (static and dynamic structural analysis) and explicit analysis
- Expert in linear & non-linear FEA software: Optistruct, Nastran, ABAQUS, and LS-DYNA
- Working experience of fatigue life calculators (nCode, Fe-safe)
- Knowledge and previous working experience with structural analysis
- Knowledge of Fatigue theory
- Experience with CAD software such as Creo Parametric
- Demonstrate the ability and desire to learn new tools and stay updated with the latest technological advancements in the industry
- Work independently while building cooperation among individuals and departments, sharing information and resources, and working to achieve goals and outcomes meeting expectations of internal and external customers
- Effective analysis and project management skills and excellent engineering judgment
- Effective communication, administration, and presentation skills
- Self-driven with concentration on ownership, execution and accountability
- Ability to manage personal workload, demonstrate flexibility, initiative, and the
willingness to respond to shifting timelines and project demands
Technical Skills (preferred):
- Interest or experience with multi-body dynamics and vehicle dynamics
- Interest or experience with explicit analysis such as crash or drop
- Scripting experience – Python and MatLab preferred
- Background in the automotive or heavy truck industry
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Structural/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent required; Master’s degree in Structural/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent preferred

Additional Job Board Information
At PACCAR, we value talent and promote growth and development. We carefully consider numerous compensation factors including your education, training, or experience. The salary range for Lead Structural CAE Engineer is $93,000-$145,500 annually. This position is also eligible for a holiday gift. Additionally, this role is eligible for the full range of benefit options listed above.
