Scope of Role:
As a CAD & Design Lead, you will be part of a multi-disciplined team responsible for the design of engineering projects. Reporting to the to the relevant Project Managers/Project Engineers for project matters.
You will be actively involved in the delivery of allocated project workload of the design team. You will manage a team of draughtspersons to deliver a strong technical solution that meets customer specifications and expectations, ensuring that all necessary reporting and administration deadlines are met.
You will liaise closely with other discipline Engineers and Sub-contractors to fulfil CAD requirements in the design work.
You will demonstrate interpersonal and communication skills for dealing with different departments within and outside of the company.
You will be responsible for the delivery of 2D and 3D drawings from the design team in accordance with the required specifications.
Experience:
- AutoCAD 2D/3D: 3 years (required)
- Autodesk Plant 3D: 2 years (required)
- Autodesk Advanced steel: 2 years
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
As a CAD and Design Lead, you will be responsible for managing the following activities:
1. Contributing to the design evolution and formal design process.
2. Creation, preparation, and modification of 2D and 3D drawings/models using AutoCAD Plant3D, Advanced Steel, Navisworks, and other industry-standard software suites.
3. Typical 2D output: PIDs, PFDs, GAs, details, pipe supports, isometrics, site layouts, hazardous area classification layouts.
4. Typical 3D output: 3D piping, mechanical equipment modelling, Navisworks 3D model federation, clash detection, modelling from point cloud data, 3D point cloud manipulation, BIM compliant models, pipework general arrangements and isometrics.
5. Development of piping and pipe support material specifications.
6. Developing piping design, isometric production, pipe supports, checking MTO work
7. Development and mentoring of junior CAD Operators.
8. At all times operate under the instruction of a responsible PE / PM and recognise the limits of their ability and authority.
9. Gain customer approval for drawings / contracts
10. Assisting with the defined project requirements (e.g. cost, time, functionality), and contribute to executing the project / work package within these parameters.
11. Liaison with the assigned Project Engineer/Manager on all equipment design and specifications.
12. Assist with on-site surveys with assigned Project Engineer/Manager where necessary. This may require climbing stairs/ladders/cramped working conditions.
13. Support the PM in all aspects of project design.
14. Contribute to business success and satisfaction of the customer.
15. Communicate all matters requiring attention in a timely manner.
16. Ensure jobs are detailed and tasks carried out as per Quality Standard.
17. Obtain external design input where necessary.
18. Maintain project documentation in line with company procedures.
19. Provide input and resource as requested for larger projects.
20. Able to understand detailed engineering drawings and ensure they are interpreted correctly on-site or in the workshop.
21. Maintain confidentiality of company business.
22. Any other reasonable request from Director of the Company or his appointed deputy.
PERSON SPEC / COMPETENCIES:
- Educated to a degree level in an Engineering discipline.
- Have experience in the chemicals and Food Industries.
- Have experience of working in a design and engineering environment.
- Awareness of DSEAR/ATEX, hazardous area classification equipment/design.
- An ability to think strategically and understand the implication of changes to contract scope.
- Knowledge of structural steel construction and standards.
- Sound understanding of engineering materials and manufacturing techniques in accordance with codes and standards
- Knowledge of, with a keen attitude to further develop skills through practice and training provided, specified software packages such as Autocad and all Office packages to competent level.
- Knowledge of BIM and associated standards (ASME, BSi, ISO, etc), Navisworks, model federation and clash detection.
- Maintain and develop standard CAD drawings
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritise work in line with project deadlines.

Schedule:
- 40hrs Monday to Friday Flexible time (early finish on a Friday if hours worked)
