Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within the C4i (Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence) Squadron as the CIS (Computer Information Systems) Support Manager.

The CIS Spt Mgr is a key role within C4i Sqn responsible for the management of the Audio Visual (AV) Training team who develop AV solutions for training across RAF Cranwell and dependent units. With an IT Civil Servant provide technical support to the Cyber Protect Team for assistance and advice on MOD IT accreditation and also, similar support to the on-site Air Cyberspace Service Centre (Air CySC) Field Service Team (FST) for advice on technical solutions and the accredited IT builds.

There is Line Management responsibility for one Full Time Reservist Sgt and 3 E1 Grade Civil Servants.

C4i Squadron consists of 12 Staff of predominately Civil Servants who are resourced to support a mix of IT equipment, telephony and audio-visual equipment. Based at RAF College Cranwell,
where all future RAF Officers are trained, Cranwell is also the home to HQ RAF Recruiting, HQ Air Cadets and HQ Central Flying School amongst others. There is a drive to exploit emerging technologies and advanced ways of working whilst building in Cyber protection and maximising capability for our customers.

In this full-time role, you will have a strong background in customer service, be self-motivated, collaborative, dynamic and close attention to detail. The role offers the opportunity to take on responsibility and innovate across the Squadron.

Additional training can be provided to help broaden knowledge and understanding of AV equipment, IT management and health & safety at work.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week

Job description

The CIS Spt Mgr responsibilities are summarised below:

  • Support to Air Cyberspace Support Centre with the design, development, documentation, implementation and testing of in-house developed IT systems. (Hardware, Software, Network and Servers)
  • Provision of accredited Operating System builds and advice on security policy to the Air Cyberspace Support Centre & C4i Cyber Protect Team.
  • Investigation and evaluation of hardware and software technologies that may be of benefit to the MOD.
  • Management of Audio Visual team tasking, priorities and quality assurance requirements.
  • You will be appointed to the role of Authorised Telecommunications Officer (ATO). This involves understanding telecommunications policy and procedures.

Other Duties:

Health & Safety focal point within C4I Sqn assisting with H&S activities.

Assist OC C4i with the daily management of the Sqn Budget as delegated through the financial letter of delegation.


Person specification

The post holder must be prepared for occasional overnight stays throughout the UK.

An employee may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of the grade and within the limits of their skill, competence and training. This will include an out of working hours on call element which is shared with other staff.

The following experience and qualifications are required for the role:

Essential.

A working knowledge and experience in the development, build and support of IT systems (Hardware, Software, Network and Servers).

Further personal development opportunities can be provided.

Whilst there will be opportunities to learn in the role, prior knowledge or training in the following areas would be beneficial:

  • Microsoft Certified Technician
  • Experience in Health & Safety in the workplace.
  • Quality Assurance experience.


  • ITIL V4 (previous versions are acceptable), IT Service Management framework.
