Contract Type – Permanent

Working Hours – Full time

Main Purpose of the Role

Utilising your background knowledge and experience in the field of Control & Instrumentation associated with modern heavy industry you will be expected to provide a high level of asset specific technical knowledge and competence within discipline area to the Operations and Maintenance team. Supporting the technicians in order to deliver

challenging operational, technical and commercial targets. Maintain plant area knowledge and expertise within maintenance discipline ensuring risk based maintenance techniques are applied to deliver safe, flexible and reliable plant.

Key Responsibilities

Health, Safety & Environmental compliance

  • Meet both legislative and corporate requirements & standards ensuring effective safety and operational practices are adopted.
  • Take ownership of maintenance compliance of plant and equipment policies & procedures within discipline area.
  • Support the wider GCU targets and initiatives relating to health, safety, wellbeing and environment, Including Mission Zero, NWoW & Business KPIs Ensure operational process safety compliance of plant and equipment.

Develop robust risk based maintenance processes to deliver the Commercial Performance of the asset

  • Manage stakeholder interfaces Maintain regular communication and continued collaboration and cooperation with E&O technical specialists and the Operations Team.
  • Support the Operations Team in delivering the Asset commercial targets.
  • Develop / enhance Local Maintenance Strategies with E&O to deliver on the agreed Asset Strategy.
  • Balance the demands of short-term minimisation of maintenance costs with the longer term performance and life expectancy of assets.
  • Provide discipline technical support to the Maintenance technicians.
  • Support transition to Operator/ Maintainer, Maintainer/ Operator flexibility.

Budget management and cost control

  • Develop the asset medium term maintenance budgets for specified discipline plant areas.
  • Ensure station maintenance expenditure is within approved budgets and plans, and effective management of resources.
  • Effectively prioritise and optimise maintenance, and ensure that processes are in place to provide support and delivery appropriately.
  • Ensure that maintenance contracts are commercially optimised in accordance with GCU guidelines.

Engender a culture of innovation to ensure that business performance is continuously improved, including identifying areas where the power plant staff can learn from practices in place within wider RWE Generation portfolio

  • Decision making, including balancing short term commercial performance against controllable costs and the long term integrity of the asset.
  • Develop the capability of the asset to deliver optimum commercial performance.

Management of Staff, Competence and Development

  • Demonstrate positive engagement with staff at all levels, and promote a positive and informed future outlook for RWE which motivates and engages staff.
  • Promote employee wellbeing and encourage a positive team culture.
  • Ensure that people are given the right development opportunities for personal growth, and to meet the business demands and succession needs for an integrated O & M Team.
  • Ensure that all staff are actively encouraged & engaged in the RWE development processes and programmes (Equip, inspire, Actuate etc).
  • Support transition to Operator/Maintainer, Maintainer/Operator flexibility.

Engagement with the Wider RWE Business

  • Manage stakeholders/partners engagement including multi-disciplinary and cross functional teams.
  • Foster ‘buy in’ and belief at all levels of the organisation.
  • Provide flexible management (where appropriate) to support the RWE fleet assets

Knowledge & Skills

  • High level of asset specific technical knowledge and competence within discipline area.
  • Discipline specific maintenance expertise at a senior technician level with the ability to influence and engineers and station management while possessing the interpersonal skills to operate a strong team based environment.
  • Qualified to HNC / Degree Level in relevant Engineering Discipline and Membership of a relevant professional body.
  • Demonstrates the ability to deal with constantly changing priorities. Attention to detail is essential; methodical, innovative, numerate, analytical, well organised and commercially aware.
  • Possess strong team working skills and be able to operate in a multi-disciplinary environment.
  • Experienced in the management of complex plant issues, and able to provide advice to operations, maintenance and engineering.
  • Possess sound knowledge on power generation safety management systems including system Safety Rules.
  • Demonstrable knowledge and experience of Health, Safety and Environmental legislation, regulations and directives.
  • Flexible and Geographically agile whilst customer & service focussed.
