Sainsbury’s Buying Teams ensure that we get the best products at the best prices to help us deliver quality and value to our customers. We are a big, friendly team who negotiate with, and manage suppliers. Customers are at the heart of everything we do.
You will own, deliver and optimise the buying and selling strategy for Sainsbury’s World Food within the Packaged and Speciality Category. This is achieved through brilliant sourcing, product selection, value and profit optimisation and supplier management. World Foods aims to provide products to meet the needs of ethnically, religiously, and culturally diverse customers.
World Foods has been revolutionised at Sainsbury’s over the last year, with significant investment leading to enhanced ranges and more distribution. Our aim is to deliver Sainsbury’s fair share of the World Foods market. We are moving into the next phase of that journey and you will be a key part in scoping out what the future strategy is. You will make key decisions in both the Buying Strategy (product listings & negotiated cost prices) and the Selling Strategy (price & promotions) alongside another buyer and reporting into a Senior World Foods buyer.
As a Buyer you’ll:
- Develop and execute a customer-focused category plan in line with the Sainsbury’s corporate strategy
- Identify and negotiate cost savings through brilliant supplier relationship management and understanding of the end-to-end supply chain
- Analyse financial, market and customer data to identify opportunities to deliver a market-leading product range
- Work with range analysts to build an appropriate product range that delivers a market-leading commercial advantage
- Influence key stakeholders across the business to gain engagement and commitment to buying area plans
- Deliver to business targets on sales, profit, value and range
- Deliver market leading events propositions
Our Packaged and Speciality Buying Team would love to see:
- Experience in a food buying/commercial role
- Some knowledge and understanding of the retail market and the category performance
- Drive to succeed, make effective decisions and deliver strong results
- Negotiation knowledge & skills
- Strong commercial acumen
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication
- Brilliant prioritisation and organisation
- An analytical mindset with an effective communicating style and influencing skills
- Ability to spot issues, plan to mitigate risk with high levels of resilience
