JOB SUMMARY
As the Business Intelligence Developer you will be an experienced and adaptable data professional who will support Maintel to expand our business intelligence and business systems team.
Working on a wide variety of projects and initiatives including data warehousing, business intelligence, data quality improvement, master data management, and more.
We don’t expect you to have equal expertise across all areas, but you should be confident applying your transferrable skills to novel situations.
You will be joining a small team, with some skills overlap but each colleague has different focus and specialisms. Expect to work independently, with ownership of deliverables, but not to work in isolation.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Using Microsoft tools: SQL Server, Power BI, and SSIS/SSRS/SSAS; some of our pipeline projects will involve Azure data tools/services.
Hands-on solving problems and developing solutions with the following tools, and also expected to do ‘surrounding’ activities like:
- Requirements gathering
- Project planning & communicating progress
- Solution design/specification
- Exploratory data analysis
- Bulk or manual data cleansing
- Testing
- User training/support
- Incident response
- Writing documentation & guidance
- Process improvement
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Demonstratable experience:
- Strong T-SQL skills, both for ad-hoc querying and development.
- Experience with wider SQL Server ‘stack’ (some of SSIS, SSRS, SSAS).
- Experience with an enterprise BI platform (such as Power BI, Qlik, or Tableau), including both ‘back-end’ (data modelling, scripting/coding) and ‘front-end’ (effective data visualisation, dashboard design) skills.
- Understanding of dimensional modelling (star schemas) and Kimball methodology.
- Experience participating in data warehouse development and data loading (ETL/ELT).
- A “ head for data”: willing and able to explore unfamiliar and undocumented datasets, define and measure data quality, diagnose data-related problems with systems, and do ‘legwork’ when required.
- Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
- Excellent problem-solving skills: able to troubleshoot and deliver both short- term and long-term solutions to suit differing business needs.
An ideal candidate may also have experience across the following areas:
- Master data management
- Data from CRM, ERP, or financial business systems
- Telecommunications or managed services industries
- Microsoft Azure data-related tools/services
- SQL Server administration, deployment, performance tuning
- A scripting language like PowerShell or Python
- Retrieving data from web APIs
